SharonK
My ds who is 14 started Geometry in January using Teaching Textbooks. He does fine with everything except for the proofs. He seems to understand the postulates, theorems, etc. He can't formalize the strategy for completing a proof. If I sit with him and do it with him, he gets it but I have to pretty much tell him each step. Do some kids just not get proofs? TIA for any suggestions! Teachin'Mine
Help him to ask the right questions, so he knows what he's trying to solve. Then work from the desired result - backward. Then start to actually write the proof, and steer him, but don't give him any of the answers. Let him come up with them. Even if he's off a bit - explore where that will go and then have him adjust his plan. A few times of doing this with similar problems, and he'll get the idea. :) Practice, practice, practice!
