when do you become the next grade?

according to the college board?

when you finish the last one, or when you start the next? my public high school doesn't know this. i want my son (who will finish his sophomore year of high school may 28 or before but not start his junior year until sometime in august) to take the SAT in june (so he can take spanish at the cc). we really don't have the $45 right now and qualify for the fee waiver, which is only available to juniors. the high school guidance counselor told me to find out.

 

i emailed the college board, but was wondering about your wise opinions.

 

i could always use part of my very small tax refund this year i suppose.

I would think that if he finishes 10th grade in May and takes the test in June,then he is a junior. He completed 10th grade. The next grade is 11.

who doesn't start calling him/herself a "Next" grader when they finish a year, i..e if they finished 6th on June 9th, on June 10th, they'll tell you they are in 7th grade... LOL - and ITA!

I always consider my kids in the summer to be the next grade even if we are still finishing up some work. THat is the way most summer programs work.

According to our local library and YMCA you enter the following grade upon graduation of the previous grade. So over the summer you are in the grade you will be entering in the fall. I assume our school system agrees as they do offer summer reading programs through the library.
