Mabelen
On the other hand, I saw an article recently -- in Spanish -- about how the majority of Spanish citizens themselves are decidedly not enthusiastic about learning a foreign language (or even willing to learn one), whereas, taking into account my experiences in Germany, I would suppose most Germans are more excited about bi- and multilingualism. Having not read the article you are mentioning, I am just speaking as a native Spaniard who still keeps in touch with her native country. I wold guess that what the article was aiming at was not so much the lack of enthusiasm of Spanish citizens as such but their disilusionment, perhaps? I don't think foreign languages are still well taught in school for the most part, and that leads to leaving school with very poor levels of proficiency in foreign languages despite having done them for years! I do think Spaniards are very aware of the importance of learning foreign languages and would be very willing to do so if the system worked better? Edit to add: I just read an article in El PaÃs talking about why Spaniards are not as fluent in English as other Europeans, you might want to read it if you are interested for another view on this issue. http://www.elpais.com/articulo/opinion/espanoles/nos/da/mal/ingles/elpepiopi/20100719elpepiopi_11/Tes Edited July 19, 2010 by Mabelen
