Son interested in building electric guitar

Hi ladies,

 

I'm still new here but I always get so much great advice reading the forum. My son is 15 years old and interested in building his own electric guitar. Just wondering if any of your kids have been there done that? Any advice or web sites with good information or prices would be much appreciated. Thanks so much!

Well my son has not built an electric guitar but he did build an amp as outlined in Make magazine. (Check it out here.) More than $5 was invested in the project however!

My husband (who is playing one of his guitars in the other room :) ) "builds" them by getting parts. Is your son wanting to actually carve or just get the parts so he can get the electrical experience? He says the parts are so cheap not many people build them any more. Dh uses ebay a lot and he uses a place called:

Hi Georgia, Thanks for your reply. We enjoyed looking at your husbands web site. My son wants to buy a body blank to carve out the guitar. The other elements, he wants to buy pre-made and assemble them together.
