Robin in DFW
I am considering having my dd take an SAT class offered at our local high school through a test prep company. The company seems reputable as quite a few of the surrounding school districts are using them. If you have had your dc take a course such as this, did you feel it helped them? I think it would help with any test anxiety issues and with really understanding how the test works and give the student some insight as to what will be on the test. They take a proctored test every Saturday for the duration of the class. Dd has been slowly working her way through the College Board's SAT book. But, sometimes having a real live person teach something helps. Plus the classes are at the school where she will test later on...I think this alone would help ease any nervousness. Thoughts??? Thanks, Robin
Martin
My kid took one through the school. When I asked if it was beneficial, she said "ahhhhhh, ummmmm, yeah." It did help her with some things but nothing monumental and did not improve her scores.
merylvdm
My dd did hers by studying at home - and my son is preparing the same way. So far that has been very successful for us and I have not heard any kids be really enthusiastic about classes they have taken. Robin in DFW
And do you have a regularly scheduled class time to do the prep? My dd has been using the College Board's SAT book and does the SAT QoD, but I'm not sure it's enough. Dd has been offered a soccer scholarship at a Div. 1 school and one of the requirements for entrance (this is a university policy, not NCAA or athletics policy) is she must make an 1180 on her SAT because she's homeschooled. I'm sure she can get this score, but it would be nice to make sure we had done everything to ensure her success. Thanks, Robin
Kareni
If it's within your budget, I'd recommend you consider the Chalkdust SAT Math review program. My daughter found it valuable. Regards, Kareni
