Alice
Ds is in Singapore 1A and doing addition problems like 25 + 7. I love the way Singapore teaches it and the way it emphasizes doing it mentally. I think he has a great grasp of the concept and he's doing very well with the work. Mostly, because I think he's naturally "mathy" and the program is a great fit for him. The question is does Singapore ever teach writing the problems vertically and "carrying the one"? I know that the concept they teach is the same and I like the way they teach it better but I've been wondering if I should also show him the other way just so he knows it if it comes up elsewhere. I don't know how they teach adding multi-digit numbers later so maybe this comes up again. This is probably more of a new homeschooler naively worrying about missing something than anything else, but I'm just curious what others who use Singapore do.
