lcelmer
Sounds like possibly glasses.... I would get her checked just to be safe... some eye conditions are more treatable the earlier you catch them.
abbeyej
Neither of mine has done that while learning to read. It might be nothing, but if possible, I'd have her checked. You'll feel better when you have an answer, whether it's "no problem!" or "so good that you caught this now!"...
DawnL
I'd get her eyes checked. My 6 year old is really struggling to learn to read, and he doesn't do that.
NoPlaceLikeHome
It definitely sounds like her eyesight is not normal and needs to have her eyes checked.

littlebug42
I took my girls to the eye doctor last year. My youngest, that had been doing the same thing with the book up so close, did not need glasses but my oldest did, which completely took me by surprise. If you are concerned, I would have them checked.
Tap
Time for an eye-check. It can rule out some basic vision problems and if one is discovered, make your job much, much easier than ignoring the issue will.
SquirrellyMama
I have had two kids do this and it wasn't eyesight. My 8 year old did this when she was in first grade a lot and told me the print was too small. We went with larger print books with more space in between the words. She is now reading regular print books. My ds who is in first grade now does the same thing. We have again found larger print books with more space and will use them until he is comfortable reading. If he is still having this trouble in 2nd grade we will get his eyes checked. Kelly
