Brigitte
The publisher acquired by our parent company, Kane/Miller, publishes some really good novels for the preteen/teen age group. They are "clean" stories, although the topics can be hard-hitting, thought provoking, not fluffy. You can see them on your Usborne consultant's website under the Kane-Miller tab on the left. Conspiracy 365 is new and very popular. You can read the first chapter through a link on the website.
AngieW in Texas
The most popular series for that age in my hs group is the Warriors series by Erin Hunter. There are 4 series now. The first three series have 6 books each. The 4th just has one so far. There are also extra books like Cats of the Clans and Secrets of the Clans. My 11yo and 14yo inhale the books. My 16yo and I have read through the 1st series, but didn't really care to read any more of them, even though the one we read was good. Other books/series my girls have enjoyed at that age: Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan (fantasy/mythology) The Lightning Thief Sea of Monsters Titan's Curse Battle of the Labyrinth The Last Olympian This series is complete, but in the author's note at the end he said that it was the end of the "first Half-Blood series".* The whole series is available on audio and the audios are generally released the same day as the print version.* He has also published adult mysteries, but I haven't read any of them.* I've seen an expected 2009 release date for a movie version of the 1st book. http://www.rickriordan.com/children.htm Ember series by Jeanne DuPrau (sci fi) City of Ember People of Sparks Prophet of Yonwood (prequel - don't read it first) Diamond of Darkhold The series is complete and has been released on audio. http://www.jeanneduprau.com/books.shtml The Enchanted Forest Chronicles (main character in 1st and 3rd books is female, main character in 2nd and 4th is male) by Patricia C. beezus
My dd12 has enjoyed Polly Horvath's books, particularly Everything on a Waffle, which we read together and we both thought it was howl out loud funny. Her books usually have a lot of quirky characters. Another fun one that my daughter and I both really liked was A Year Down Yonder, by Richard Peck. If yours is interested in a Western theme, The Misadventures of Maude March by Audrey Couloumbis is pretty good. Not our usual genre around here, but mine liked this book. She also read one about the Oregon Trail that she enjoyed a lot, called A Heart for Any Fate, by Linda Crew. I think this is based on a real family's trek from Missouri to Oregon. Eva Ibbotson's books, as well as the Septimus Heap series have been popular around here.

There are 3 more books now in the Shannon Hale "Goose Girl" series..."Enna Burning" and "River Secrets." I can't remember the other...I should, dd got the set for Christmas. Other series that dd (and friends) has enjoyed are the "Dragons in Our Midst" series by Bryan Davis and the "Viking Quest" series but I can't remember the author. I just finished "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief" and the first of the "39 Clues" series. Both were good. I read the first Artemis Fowl book and there is some mild language every now and then. Just thought I'd mention it.;)
