Depends on their reading fluency. If the reading is halting, then you should do it together. Or if the reading is fairly smooth but your 2nd grader doesn't have a lot of stamina/endurance yet, then stick to a simpler level like Beginnings.

 

I think the Discovery level can be done with a 2nd grader WITH A PARENT. If done alone, stick with a lower level until reading is fluent and easy, and the child's stamina/endurance for it is pretty comfortable (3rd or 4th grade).

I agree - depends on reading ability. My dd is 7 and in second grade. Reading is one of her strong points and she does her Bible study on her own. Occasionally she will ask me a content question, but for the most part it's independent for her. She's doing the Beginnings II Old Testament survey this year and will do the New Testament survey next year.
