Valerie in Chicago
It's a playful jab at the exclusive private schools in St. Louis, where I grew up. Also, the MIL is severely disappointed that we are not sending the DC to Hoity Toity Elementary in Chicago, where 1st grade is something like $16 g's a year. (she would pay, so she could tell all of her friends her grandkids go to Hoity Toity, plus we would be beholden to her... long story...) So our approach with her was, "Look, the B..... Country Day Academy is even more exclusive -- only two kids in the whole world can get in!"

Lorna in the boonies
It's a good thing I live in a state that doesn't require a name. Our is The Dewey Hafta Academy for Unfairly Mistreated Children. (Dd15 originally named it Unlimited Achievements Academy, but the new one fits better.) Harriet Vane
I am starting to feel like ALL homeschoolers use "academy" LOL so now I am wondering about changing our official name to: Prairie Cottage School What do you think? Dh is not likely to go for it since we live in a Victorian, not a cottage. I like "cottage school" because it's so Charlotte Mason-ish. :) Dh will probably say, "If it ain't broke don't fix it" and want to leave the name as Prairie Academy. And to be fair, I am probably obsessing waaaay too much over something that doesn't affect anything.:chillpill: But still--what do you think??? Sebastian (a lady)
Cross post from the curriculum board. Would you please mind sharing your homeschool name. Thanks! :) Percival Blakeney Academy, named after the baronet otherwise known as the Scarlet Pimpernel. Actually, when the kids were little, I used that name to do a "correspondence course" unit study with them. They were little enough not to notice the lack of stamps on the envelope. They were pretty thrilled to learn that that was really their school.
JFSinIL
if anyone asks, we alternate between Perry St School (since we live, duh, on Perry St.), or "Our Last Name" School. I can never remember in time to use the St. Brutus School for Criminally Insane Boys or wherever it was the Dursley's claimed to send Harry. In this post, there is a link to another post with information on how to choose a homeschool name. This information really helped us to finally, after 12 years of homeschooling, to choose a name. :D ~Tina
Tutor
Apollos Academy For two reasons: 1. Acts 18:24-28 outlines Apollos' education in the Scriptures, and it follows a very trivium-like model, IMO 2. I liked the classical and official sound of the name

Jenny in Atl
Ours is the Ridge School. Be are on a small ridge over looking the Chattahoochee River, so it seemed to fit. Our old name was Scorpion Cove, for all the GA brown scorpions that called our house their home. :willy_nilly: I've read most of the names on the K-8 board and here... now I want to change our name. So many of are really creative!

Sandra in NC
In NC, you cannot change the name of your homeschool. I was advised 10 years ago to pick a generic name. At the time, we lived near West Bend Vineyards, and I thought, hmmmm, "West Bend" sounds good. We've moved since then, and I'm glad I chose a generic name that works anywhere.
