Do you require kids to read a play before seeing it?

Recommended Posts

Require? No. Sometimes it's possible, sometimes not. YouTube is a wealth of snippets. We also talk about what we'll see. As far as The Crucible, I asked my teen dd to read it a couple of times, but her interest wasn't there. However, after a trip to Salem and the Salem Witch Museum, my kids came home and pulled it out of the bookcase.

Another example. One of my kids saw movie The Dairy of Anne Frank before they read the book , but right after, she wanted to read the dairy. While my personal preference is book first, movie /play later, I don't really think it matters. (Oh no! I can see the tomatoes in the air!)
