That seems kind of surprising to me, especially since all of the other big names are going to be there. I was actually hoping to look at a couple of their things, but I guess I will have to find another way.

They weren't there last year either. I'm not sure what's up with that. Things have really changed with the way they rep, at least in Ohio. You could send them an email. I'm wanting to see some things and was wondering the same thing!!

ps. I just emailed them. :)

You can ck their website to see. They go to hotels in different areas for the day and set up so people can look at the materials. I am going to one locally in May since I don't need to go to convention this year (next yr is planned out already!)

I'm just hoping they have the 3rd grade 3rd edition to look at by then, but probably they won't since it doesn't come out til July.

Tracy, Harrisburg would be pretty far for us, plus that weekend is my dd's birthday, so that wouldn't work.

Elizabeth, what e-mail address did you use? I will send them a note too.

I thought it was odd that they weren't there last year. Then I thought surely they would be there this year, since the convention was a success last year.

I know one vendor who told me at CHEO that he would NEVER go to Cincinnati (and how terrible the homeschoolers were in that area) WILL be there. Money talks, LOL.

I don't know much about hs in Cincinnati, but I know that Dayton has a huge very active group of homeschoolers, and Dayton is very close to Cincinnati. I am surprised that a vendor would have that opinion of the area.

I just emailed BJU also. It will be interesting to hear what they say. The next hotel meeting will not be in my area until July. Our summers are so crazy that I hope to have my decisions made long before then!

I got an email back from BJU today saying they don't think they even got INVITED to the Cincy convention, can you imagine??? So that's terrible. I feel bad that I didn't bring it up last year so they would have known. Anyways, I wrote the convention people so they can do something about it for next year. Go figure, totally weird. Why would you invite Abeka, Alpha Omega, and all the other biggees and not BJU? But the word I heard on the street is the guy who's running this doesn't actually homeschool, just is a savvy businessman. :(

Yikes - I'm curious who that was? Then again maybe I don't want to know, LOL.

They dont come to any of our "close" (4or 5 hours away) conventions either. They also stopped doing hotel meetings locally. I thought that was really odd. The hotel meetings were always packed. I called and asked if they were going to offer free shipping at any point. I didnt think this unreasonable - many curriculum houses do - Abeka and AOP for 2 and many others offer free shipping on orders over $150. But, they did. They said "No reason too." I was surprised by the attitude. BJU is expensive - the TMs are really high in my opinion. I called them again another time thinking maybe I had gotten a grumpy operator. But, the attitude was still there. Okay, you dont want to offer incentives fine - but dont be uppity about it. Just my experience and I think it unfortunate.

They do free shipping on and off. You can sign up for emails on their website, where I assume they would notify you. I just happened to get on when they were doing free shipping, so my last order shipped free, around December I think.

BTW, an ammendment. Turns out they were invited the first year and not this year (the lady dug through her files some more). They didn't come the first year because the rep went to Indy instead. This year they didn't get invited. Is the Indy convention the same weekend this year or different? At least they know to do something about it for next year.

If the shipping issue bugs you, you can always order from Rainbow or somewhere else. :(

Yes, the shipping issue does bug me and yes I do order from somewhere else. BJU is a terrific program. I am currently using their math and science. I was using their Language Arts and Reading and I have used their Spelling before. It was really adding up though. The cost of the TMs for some reason really startled me. I used to get them off ebay. If we had hotel meetings where I could get to see the material up close and take advantage of free shipping, it would be ideal. But, they stopped our hotel meetings. That is not my fault or any of the other hsers in the area. Most of us are on very limited budgets and getting more limited lately. I just wish they would offer us something since they took our hotel meetings away. Customer service is a great thing. And yes, I am on email notification from BJU.

I ordered some things online from BJUP the other day and received free shipping. I didn't see anything about a free shipping offer but it came up as free when I checked out. I don't know why or what the qualifications are but you might try it and see.

OhElizabeth - The Indy and Cincinnati conventions are on two different weekends this year.
