Chris in VA
Do a lot of research, and use a lawyer to draw up the papers. That's all I've got! Sounds intriguing, and I happen to love when people think out of the box (house, whatever).:D

Karen in CO
No experience, but I'd love to trade with somebody who lived in on a small farm property with water rights in CO with a moderate commute to Denver. We live in a wonderful suburb which we love, but we dream of being small-time farmers.
Tap
It can be done, and in some areas can have tax benefits as well. I would mention it to them, see if they are interested at all, and if they are, ask if they would mind if you contact a real estate attorney, just to get information about how it could work out for both of your families. Find out what the legal pros/cons are and then sit down for a formal discussion.
