Need help with Spanish for 6 y. ds....

before I go on my own search, have any suggestions on where to start. This is a continuation on wether we were gonna do Spanish or French and dh and I decided that Spanish would be best to start with.

Even if Level 2 is never released (and I'm not optimistic about this), I would still highly recommend Puertas Abiertas without reservation.

I really like the Salsa videos on the Georgia public broadcasting site as a light introduction. The videos can be seen for free on line and there are lesson plans on the state of wyoming site. The price is right & it is a great introduction to a second language for my 4yo dd.

No, unfortunately, I purchased it in VHS before the DVD's were available. Or maybe they were, but I bought them a homeschool store and they only had the VHS. I didn't know any better. But this program is only in Spanish, and is fantastic.

 

The publishers had a death in the family, and since then, they have not been able to get level 2 on the market. Our co-op is currently using it, but my kids did it at home and we'll just wait for two or I'll make up something of my own.

 

But I love, love, love this program.

Does your local library have a section with picture books in Spanish? This can be really helpful. Ours also has some CDs and DVDs that we check out on ocassion.

 

I am looking at using the workbook at Walmart for Spanish then using Galore Park's So You Really Want to Learn Spanish after that which will be about 4/5th grade.

 

We have use Dora videos and books in the past to help pick up vocabulary.

We tried to use the Wal-Mart workbook for Spanish, and found that often the pages would ask a question to which we (even I, being semi-familiar with Spanish) could not find the answers. There is no answer key, and IMHO there is no TEACHING - only practice. Might be okay for some, but it was simply nothing but frustrating for us.

Also, JumpStart has a Spanish CD-ROM that comes highly recommended for the younger set. We bought it, but can't get it to work on our computer. But, maybe you can. (My computer has issues. LOL)

I like McGraw Hill's Learning Spanish with Children for that age - and it's inexpensive.

with 5yo dd and she loves it. Much to her dismay, I had them turn off the typing portion of the program because her hands were too little to hit the tildas and accents but otherwise she is loving the program. She does a little everyday.
