Kate in Arabia Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 ..if ever. We're at day.. uh.. what is today? I think we're at day six of illness for me. I can now get out of bed. I still cough like I'm trying to get rid of a lung, I've lost about 7 lbs and still not much appetite... but the fever seems to have gone and the headache comes and goes instead of pounding all day long. The glass is half full, lol. It all started with my 6 yr old. My guess is he got it from class, which he joined a month ago. The kids have always been involved in outside classes, but I think this is the first for my ds where it is almost daily (4 days a week) with a bunch of kids in a pretty small space, where they have snacks and they all share and are generally in each others' faces a lot. Maybe I have to institute a new rule where they have to wash their hands and face with anti-bacterial wash when they get home. Or would it be too late, or pointless, or is it better to get sick (what doesn't kill you makes you stronger)? Not entirely coherent yet Quote
Laura Corin Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 I'm sorry you feel so bad. I do get my kids to wash their hands when they walk in the door (ordinary soap), but beyond that I hope that a little dirt and a few germs at this stage will make them stronger. Laura Quote
Osmosis Mom Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 I am pretty tough about washing hands when getting home and not rubbing your face when out and about. I might introduce antibacterial soap as well. I hate going to congested places with bad air-flow, lots of kids and the enevitable exchange of germs. If we go to such places almost certain we'll bring home something -which gets cumbersome when you also have asthma in the house. Don't have any advice for you. Except perhaps to make sure you get your vitamins, tons of green peppers for c-vitamin and to munch of whole garlic.... Love and salam. Quote
Harriet Vane Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Sorry you are so miserable--hope you are feeling better soon. Quote
Mom2legomaniacs Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Oh no! I feel your pain. I am starting my 4th day in bed with influenza. I am so sorry for you. I understand about the lung thing. I had some big story floating around in my head right before I fell asleep (NyQuil induced) about my prolapsing a lung! I hope you are get better soon! Quote
Mamagistra Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 I sympathize, Kate! I coughed myself to sleep last night, and I just cannot get clear. Hugs and healing thoughts to you and everyone who is stricken with flu, allergies, crud, and the yuck. Quote
Old Dominion Heather Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 I still cough like I'm trying to get rid of a lung, I've lost about 7 lbs and still not much appetite... but the fever seems to have gone and the headache comes and goes instead of pounding all day Hope you feel better soon! I got sick over the weekend, but so far everyone else is fine. Hopefully they will stay well. I am a handwashing fanatic, but we don't use antibacterial... it tears up our skin. And I don't mind dirt so much, just germs. My rule is if they have been out in public for more than an hour or so, we wash up and sometimes change shirts, if we have been around sick people or just lots of people in an enclosed space, like church or co-op. It seems to have done the trick for them. They have not been sick yet. So you might try having your little guy change shirts when he comes home. Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Wow, I knew this crud was going around the U.S. (our family is just getting over it) but I didn't know it was around the world! The beauty of globalization! I hope you feel better soon. Quote
Shelly in IL Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Dh got sick exactly 4 weeks ago. He is good now, and hasn't coughed for about 2 days! However, at 3 weeks, he got a reoccurrence of the same bug and had it for a week. 2 ds are in week 4, one is almost better; one would be, but it went into a double ear infection and he is still miserable. On Thurs. I start week 2. Good luck!:banghead: Quote
