KarenNC Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 We've just finished the entire series (A, B, C and 1-8) and I never felt the need for a teacher's guide. Overall it was very self-explanatory. The biggest problem we faced was in trying to determine exactly what some of the little pictures were intended to represent (I'm afraid no particular one springs to mind), but it wasn't a hindrance overall. Tess in the Burbs Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 ;) Well I never saw one, never used one. my child enjoyed the series and is now finishing up book 2. Still haven't used a teacher manual here. Older child is finishing book 4. And both are doing great without much instruction from mom or a teacher book. So you can do it without....but I am curious what is offers? Quote

I am sooooooo happy to hear that you guys never felt the need for at TG!!! That will save me a few bucks. :) Thanks EVERYBODY!! Quote
Myrtle Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 I don't know how useful the TM would be. My kids loved these books and I invented activities that I knew they would have success with. The only thing that I did that was possibly different was that I would pronounce the words, for example "dog" in two parts. I'd say the "d" sound with a very brief pause and then say "og" so that the initial sound was distinct for the child. After teaching several sounds like this I was able to say the entire word together and the child picked up on how to identify the word initial sound without the slight pause in between. Also, I think there is one activity in each unit in which the child writes the featured letter on the picture IF the picture begins with that sound, if not they are to leave the line blank (or put an x) and when I got to that activity we took turns. Child would write the letter if he had learned the letter; otherwise, it was my turn and I'd write the letter. Quote
Linda...inOwasso Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Jumping on the bandwagon... I highly recommend Explode the Code. My dc, too, have used the entire series and it's been wonderful! My kids look forward to figuring out what the quirky little pictures mean. We love it here! Quote
