coopers5
Hello - just a question regarding the Common Application if there's anyone out there who could field this: My daughter's working on this now....... On the privacy act question that comes up when you click to invite a teacher to do a recommendation - that FERPA - thing - Family Educational Rights Privacy Act, or something like that - what did you guys do with this? And any and all explanations or help or advice is welcome! :bigear: I love this board. Jo
Kareni
My eldest did the Common Application last year. I don't recall the specifics of FERPA; however, if you are asking about having your child waive his or her rights to ever see the recommendation, I can tell you what we did. I suggested that my daughter waive her rights. This gives the recommendation writer total freedom to write as he or she pleases. (You'd be unlikely to ask someone to write a recommendation if you expected a negative report.) Regards, Kareni
Brenda in MA
I also don't remember that specific statement, but I also encouraged my son to waive his right to see the recommendation forms. I think if you don't waive the right to see the forms, then the admissions officer(s) would wonder why and question whether there was something the applicant wanted to hide.
