I haven't heard much chatter about this one and wondered if anyone was using it. If so, what are your thoughts about this? I am trying to find a writing program for my 11 & 12 dc who haven't had a lot of writing.

I am using Jump In this year with my 7th grader. I've liked it okay. If you have a child that loves to write and is naturally good at it, you might try another program. I view this program as a good one to use with a reluctant writer (which my son is VERY reluctant).

I just went to her workshop this past Monday. It was awesome! I loved it. My oldest ds and I attended it. We learned so much.

I didn't buy her book because what she covered in the workshop was sufficient enough for me as I was already using a combo program (Writing Aids to complement my TOG program and IEW).

From what I have learned and looked at I would say the program is a very good program for NON writers or reluctant writers or those that hate to write. It also teaches note taking, report writing and essay writing.

If you have a strong writer though then I would use something else. However if a strong writer but poor on mechanics/report then maybe you can use the program.

but it really wasn't a very good fit. I'm not sure how to explain it but when we started the IEW SWI dvd's it was like night and day.

My dd could do the exercises in Jump In but she just didn't seem to be able to apply the concepts outside of the workbook, kwim?
