Rainbows
I know it suggests pages in a few different encyclopedias...but do you have to use it? Or is it complete enough on its own? Im trying not to over do it this year and keep it simple thanks
Susie in CA
You don't need any encyclopedia with SOTW. My boys liked to look at the pictures in the Usborne Encyclopedia but we didn't 'need' it for anything, really. I am assuming, of course, you are asking about you six-year old. SABE
My boys seem to process the SOTW text better when they can also look at pictures in the encyclopedia. Edited August 26, 2009 by SABE
Pata
We used it for part of last year and we are not using it this year. I think it's fine without, but we do add it a fair amount of other books to flesh out certain topics. Hope that helps!
Laura Corin
I like having the encyclopedia because is offers full-colour pictures. We also like some of the Usborne links, but they aren't essential. Laura
Sunshine State Sue
I used the Usborne encyclopedia for the first year or two "because I bought it", but we never got much out of it. We don't really retain anything when looking at pictures and reading snippets of information and picture captions. So, I put it on a shelf for the remaining years. Years later, ds took it off the shelf and it became bedtime reading for several months. :) We did read lots and lots of supplemental books with SOTW as well.
