Michelle in AL
After one week, I'm beginning to doubt that I can teach Spanish on my own using BJU. Both kids have been to Peru and speak a little. They've taken bits and pieces. I remember a little, but kind of fumble through the lessons. My oldest picks up Spanish immediately and the youngest goes slower like me. She also asks lots of questions, some of which I have to look up, because I don't know enough. I wonder if Potter's School would be better? Would a class once a week, really make a big difference? Would they really learn more in an hour and a half? I'm just wondering if it's worth the $460 or if I just need to study a little more? Beth in SW WA
Local tutor would be ideal, imho. We have a native Bolivian who tutors the kids 1 hour/week. She is amazing. They have learned so much in 8 months. She wrote her own materials and is grammar-heavy. I looked at the Potters School Spanish and was so close to registering last Spring. BJU is good, from what I've heard/read. For this year, I opted for keeping the tutor plus putting my dd 12 in high school Spanish 1 for 3 days/wk at our local school district. (This is a school for homeschoolers.) After 1.5 years of Latin & 6 months of Spanish, dd tested into high school level. She'll have conversation 3 days/week (a necessary element when learning a foreign language, imho). Good luck in your decision!! I was actually thinking about you this week. I need to look at your Omni 1 blog, since we are starting Omni 1 soon.
Michelle in AL
Thanks Beth, I could get a tutor. Our pastor's wife used to teach Spanish. I think I'll ask her.
