Wendi
I asked about report writing recently, then when I was going over some things for this year, I took out the IEW lesson plans and realized report writing is covered! Duh! We're using SWI B. We've actually done a little bit of IEW, just the first couple of units. I'm wondering if we could change the order a bit. Will it mess things up if I switch the order of lessons so we do the report writing unit BEFORE we do story sequence? Wendi
mama25angels
I don't think so, but i'd probably email Andrew Pudewa and see what he thought.
pbjmeyer
he teaches the 'dress ups' and 'sentence starters', adding little by little, so if you watch lesson 4-6 on reports, you will find you've missed several steps.

Wendi
Thanks. I guess I won't try to change the order of the units. However, I'll watch the seminar portion about report writing, and do the lessons myself for practice, so I can guide ds between now and then. I guess my concern is that he will be doing some "report writing" between now and when we get to that unit in IEW. I want to be consistent. So if I learn the techniques and start showing him bit by bit along the way as he works on a report for geography, then when we get to that unit in IEW, he won't feel like he's learning something brand new or different, and he'll be up-to-speed on all the dress-ups and other things that he's learned in the previous units. Right? Does that make sense? We'll be using Around the World in 180 Days, so I plan to ask him to do some short reports (i.e., read about warfare in ancient Egypt and write a report). He's going through the Outlining workbook, so he should be able to make up a simple outline to organize the info he finds. I just don't want to teach him something now, and have it be different from the "IEW way". So I'll prepare myself. Thanks! Wendi
