Verity
I will be homeschooling my 10year old and 7 year old this fall. In my search for a good science curriculum I came across the Real Science 4 Kids (http://gravitaspublications.com/) and I like the format, even for my older son. My question for those familiar with this publication is: Can I teach both students with the Biology/Chemistry/Physics Level 1 or should I consider getting the Pre-Level 1 for my younger son? If I get both the level 1 and pre-level 1 could I use the teachers addition from the higher level for both? I have a 3 year old coming up who could use the pre-level 1 in a few years so I'm not totally adverse to getting both, but trying to figure out what is really needed. The books look great but are a bit pricey... Thanks in advance!
Orthodox6
I have both pre-I and I for the Chemistry, and have I for the biology. I think the Level I would be a large "stretch" for the 7-yo. No, the teacher manual for Level I will not work for Pre-Level. I have read observations from some moms that their "stronger reader" younger children scoot through Pre-Level faster than they expected. I used Pre-Level chemistry with my DD when she was 8, at the upper end for that book. She used it as "science reader", and didn't do any "labs". She was completely happy. JudoMom
I've got Pre-Level 1 for Chemistry (we did it a couple of years ago) and we liked it so much we're doing Level 1 (Chemistry/Biology/Physics) this year. Even though I have Pre-Level 1, I'm only planning on doing Level 1 with all of my boys. The younger ones (7 & 5.5) won't get as much out of it, but they will find the labs fun and they'll hit chemistry again in a few years.
