Question about FLL and WWE...

Recommended Posts

I am doing WWE 1 with my dd6 and I plan to start FLL with her at the end of this week's school break. We have been doing WWE for a couple of months now and she is on week 10. My question is: How important is it for WWE and FLL to match up? Should I hold off on WWE until she catches up to the same point in FLL, or would it be okay to just move along at her pace in each one and not worry about the lessons matching up. What do you think?

We've actually done the opposite, and from what I've seen, there's no requirement that the two match up.

Ditto. We actually started with FLL, and then added in WWE a while later. We are on lesson 72 (or so) of FLL and week 9 of WWE. No need for them to match up.

I have not yet had any direct experience with either, but this is what Jessie Wise told me at the NOVA conference when I asked her about them. She said that I could start FLL with ds1 (5 yrs) and later, add in WWE whenever he is ready to start writing ,as late as 3rd grade if need be, while starting FLL with ds in K.

So I'm guessing it would be fine if the lessons don't match up.

The only think that may be a problem is that the copywork sentences use the grammar that has been learned previously in FLL. So, copywork one week may focus on proper nouns for places and you are supposed to ask your child to point to the proper nouns for places in the copywork sentence. If you haven't done the corresponding FLL lesson yet you wouldn't be able to integrate the two programs that way.

If you did FLL four times a week for a while and skipped the narration and copywork lessons in FLL, you would probably catch up pretty quickly and then be on track for the rest of the program if you wanted them to match up. :001_smile:
