Lisa L. in MI
Has anyone found errors in the answer key for Chapter 6? Thanks!
Beth in Central TX
Here's a link to the corrections for the TL series on the Memoria Press forum: http://www.memoriapress.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=11 I saw a question specifically about TLII Chapter 6, but there was not answer to it. Tina in Ouray
Yes. I have corrected #16 (I Peter 1:20-21) to "Celarent."
Lisa L. in MI
Does #14 have errors? Thank you for responding re #16 - that is very helpful.
Tina in Ouray
I don't have any errors penciled into my answer book for #14. That doesn't necessarily, however, mean there aren't any. Which answer were you questioning?
Lisa L. in MI
The enthymemes about China and poverty/crime, particularly if the moods are incorrect. Thank you.
Tina in Ouray
Lisa, I just looked at those two enthymemes. The answers given for the “guns don't cause crime†enthymeme seem fine to me. I wrote this enthymeme in two different ways. All nonCC[things that don't cause crime] is nonB[a thing that should not be banned]. All G[guns] is nonCC. :: All G is nonB. AAA-1 No nonCC[non crime causing thing] is TTBB[a thing to be banned]. All G is nonCC. :: No G is TTBB. EAE-1 (Celarent) The China enthymeme answer is a little more confusing. The way the answer book has translated the argument into logical form (on the left) it should be classified as a “Celarent,†but it is said to be a “Barbara†(on the right). You could write this enthymeme either way (as a Barbara or a Celarent), but you would want to be consistent in how you labeled it. No CVHR[country that violates human rights] is CSRTP[a country that should receive special trade privileges]. All C[China] is CVHR. :: No C is CSRTP. EAE-1 All CVHR is CSRTP. All C is CVHR. :: All C is CSRTP. AAA-1 As a second order enthymeme, the answer should also read that the minor (not the major) premise is missing. Is that clear? If not, I'm happy to try to explain it more. Or you could show me what you came up with, and I could try to see where you might be going astray. Lisa L. in MI
Thank you for clarifying the China enthymeme answer. However the other we're not sure about is the poverty/crime (the 10th enthymeme in the list). Would you mind addressing this one? Your help is very much appreciated! :) Lisa
Tina in Ouray
Lisa, I'm wondering if we have different editions of TLII. The tenth enthymeme in our book is about welfare programs that stress work. Is that the one that you need help with? If not, perhaps you could type up the original enthymeme here for me. Tina in Ouray, CO
Lisa L. in MI
I'm sorry - it is the 11th: All proof must be convincing Therefore, there is no proof that poverty causes crime My apologies. Thank you so much. Lisa
Tina in Ouray
Lisa, Yes, I believe the answer key is mistaken. The syllogism should be written like this: No [convincing argument] is [proof that poverty causes crime]. All [proofs] are [convincing arguments]. Therefore, no [proof] is [a proof that poverty causes crime]. EAE-1 (Celarent) First Order Enthymeme Tina
