Ottakee
Has anyone heard of a seizure where the child (13dd) gets "tippy" as she calls it---dizzy and uncoordinated. She then ate (in case it was blood sugar related as this was 8am). At 8:45 she fell trying to get out of a chair, hit her head, cut it (needed glueing at the doctor's), smashed her glasses. Then I laid her down on the couch where about 20 minutes later she threw up. She was still dizzy, uncoordinated so we went in for a STAT blood test for her seizure med levels. Those came back normal so far as well as her CBC. At 1:30 we saw the doctor and she still couldn't walk on her own, uncoordinated, etc. but her cogntive skills were fine (she is impaired but they were very good for her) and her speech was fine (in fact no stuttering which is a plus). Doctor ordered a CT right away due to the fact that she still couldn't walk 5-6 hours after this started and that she had fallen and cut her head earlier. We did the CT at 3:15 and got home about 5pm. She was about 75% better then. By 6:30 she was totally normal and went to church tonight and seemed fine. Doctor is calling me back in a few minutes with the results of the CT. This seemed to me like her Tegretol dose was too high but that came back just fine. She has done this before but normally she is only "tippy" for an hour or less but if she has a major event her cognitive skills can take hours to days to come back while the motor skills come back quickly. Today it was the motor skills that took 10 hours to come back but her cognitive and speech skills were back quickly. Does this sound like any kind of seizure you know? Neurologist has her diagnosed with complex-partial seizures for lack of something better at this point. Just wondering what else I could be googling. Ottakee
Dd did well last night until she took her meds and then couldn't walk again. We were sent to the Peds. ER about 40 minutes away. We were there until 3:30 this morning and then they let us go home. Saw the NP at the neurologist's office this morning. Looks like a toxicity to her Lamictal as we just upped the dose a bit and then she was switched to a generic form which could be +/- 20%. PollyOR
Glad they finally figured it out. That made for a long day for you guys :grouphug:.
TraceyS/FL
Oh man, i'm sorry you had to go back last night. My Dad has a few meds that he CANNOT take generics for, they aren't even close and he is allergic to them. Can you get a dispense as written script given her reaction? :grouphug:
Ottakee
Today the insurance agreed to a DAW script. We tried a few weeks ago and they refused. Now, after a doctor's visit, cut head, emergency CT, 2 STAT blood draws, a trip to the ER, and another visit to the neurologist, they agreed. Oh man, i'm sorry you had to go back last night. TraceyS/FL
YAY!!!! That is wonderful to hear, i figured you would have a bit more to work with after the last 2 days. I just really hate for your DD that you had to go thru all of that to get it :( Is it "instant relief" do they think and she won't have anything lingering from it? :grouphug:
