Vida Winter
Or something that would seat 6-7 people (2 of them needing carseat space). Just wanted to know where to start searching and what discounts may be out there. I've used Priceline for hotels but not for car rental. I need to pick it up at the Chicago airport. I have the AAA discount but that's not much. Dana
iamom
I think priceline works great for renting mini-vans. You could also check hotwire.
Kathy in MD
For cars, we generally find Alamo, followed by Enterprise to be the cheapest national chains. Enterprise's fleet does include mini-vans and they will deliver to your hotel. The one time I tried the discounters, for something besides car rental, I found them overpriced and didn't offer the better and cheaper alteratives. Come to think of it, I may have tried them for airfare.
Vida Winter
Thanks so much! I did try Priceline first, and got a message that there were no cars available. So, off to try the others.
Sonshine
We were on vacation with a rental car last week. Minivans were twice as expensive as full size cars. We were able to upgrade from a full sized car which seats 5 to a Lincoln Towncar that seats 6 (a very small front row middle seat which my slightly small 8 year old boy fit into.) for only $5 more per day. There are also deals on the web to get one upgrade with Enterprise (who we rented with) for free. So you could potentially rent a standard, upgrade free to a full size, and then pay $5 more per day for a Lincoln. I think that's what we did, although I still haven't sorted out the bill. Oh, and maybe you know this. We added more insurance to our standard auto policy for $3 and something per day rather than pay $21 per day with the rental company. We don't normally carry collision, only liability.
