TraceyS/FL
DD has "failed" the auditory processing testing, "failed" the SPD/SID eval, and it was interesting to watch her play on her sisters new Disney Dance Dance Revolution this morning. The OT (who hasn't completed her report) said she sees a big issue with the top of the body coordinating with the bottom, and I agree 100% with that. I'm thinking this might actually be a fun way to help her - she didn't get frustrated with it like i thought she would, kept plugging away. So then i was thinking - what other games are good? We have the Wii Fit, she tends to get frustrated with some of the stuff on it, but i need to get her back on it. Any suggestions to keep on file?? Mom22ns
My ds's OT loved the idea of DDR. We started it when we stopped IM. My son is now incredibly good at it, the best in the family. I never thought with his motor planning he would be capable! He does Wii fit as well. I think the balance games are good because they are both fun and work on motor planning. I don't have any other suggestions but I hope someone else does.
JenneinCA
You might look at Outdoor Challenge. I don't remember all the details but it did have the kids using upper and lower body muscles together.
Dobela
I am watching this thread intently. I would love to learn more about other games as well.
Dobela
new Disney Dance Dance Revolution I have thought about getting something like this for my ds9. He would like to dance, we need the exercise, and he needs help with total body coordination as well. What kinds of songs are on this? Does it have the teen stars? I just don't want to buy something that is all likttle girl princessy type songs. The regular dance revolution games have songs I would have to filter and I don't want to do that either. TraceyS/FL
Bunch of Classics - but sung in the updated way (by a bunch of the radio disney stars & others i think). I sweated the most to the Mickey Mouse Club March! I haven't been hip to all the "T" rated music games at all, i'm still waiting for an E version of Rock Band/Guitar Hero. So when the youngest said she wanted this one, it was fine by me. Oh here, Amazon has the song list: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KRPU48/ref=s9_simx_gw_s0_p63_t2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1J7QXMW4M98YKV268Y0X&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846 Apparently the reviews aren't great, but it's fun! LOL!!

You might consider Dance Praise on the computer. We use this instead of the Wii and really love it! Here is a link, but I found it cheaper somewhere else at Christmas (sorry can't remember where). http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/easy_find?Ntk=keywords&Ntt=dance+praise&action=Search&N=0&Ne=0&event=ESRCN&nav_search=1&cms=1&Go.x=0&Go.y=0&Go=Go

Pensguys
I'm interested in this too. We finish up OT in 3 weeks, and are going to get a Wii Fit to continue with exercises here at home. I have a good handle on the schoolwork and what she does at OT with him in order for us to just do our thing here.
LizzyBee
We like Wii Fit and Big Brain Academy.
Guest Tam
My ds had trouble swimming using arms while kicking at the same time- it just took much practice but that is the best exercise over the years, that we have used to help him organize/coordinate/strengthen his body. We also purchased a trampoline when he was about 5. Tam
Dobela
I am on a yahoo list for children with reading problems. On that list today someone recommended the Wii game that has archery, basketball, etc because it works on similar skillls as VT. The same poster also recommended the Wii Fit for the same reason. I haven't tried either one so I can't say for certain that they would work.
TraceyS/FL
Thanks! I wonder if that is the one we have - Deca Sports? It is interesting to watch her play archery on it, her aim is always wrong in the same place..... Guess i can pencil in Wii time with that for her! LOL!! swellmomma
On the wii ds really like star wars the clone wars(I think that is the one, he uses a lightsaber that connects to the wii remote) It helps his coordination and balance as he swings that thing around. Guitar hero has helped corrdinate his visual and auditory input and combine with hand eye coordination. We are buying a wii fit when I get the disability money which should help a lot of those areas. On the DS they play brain age which helps with thinking skills etc

I haven't tried either one so I can't say for certain that they would work. I think they're talking about the new Wii Sports Resort. It uses an extra motion sensor called the Wii MotionPlus, which plugs into the bottom of the remote. It has several sword-fighting games, including one where a goofy object is thrown into the air and when it comes down there's an arrow on it showing which way you need to slice it with your "sword" -- it could be diagonally from lower right to upper left, straight across left to right, etc. You have to react quickly and you have to make BIG movements (across the midline); you can't just jiggle/shake the remote like you can with some other games. We also love the original Wii Sports and the Wii Fit (especially the balance games), but the new Resort games are the favorites around here! http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Sports-Resort-Nintendo/dp/B001COQW14/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1251434720&sr=8-1 Jackie

Pajama Mama
Dd8 loves a cheerleading game called We Cheer for the Wii. Yes, the girls are in little cheerleading skirts. It uses some popular music for the cheers. But I don't find anything objectionable in it. You have to follow the girls hands, feet and body movements. You need to 2 Wii remotes for the "pom-poms", not a remote and nunchuck.
