Country Girl
We have been using the Primary Grade Challenge Math and I love it. However, we are about to finish it but I'm not sure if my ds will be ready for the regular Challenge Math program. The PGCM program has been a really good fit, he is able to do the early levels easily but is definitely challenged by the Einstein levles. Is there a big jump between the PGCM and the regular Challenge Math? If so, is there something else like these programs that might fill the gap between the levels? Thanks! Reya
I jsut have Primary right now, but check out The Critical THinking Co's math books for more options.
radiobrain
I have been wondering the same thing.... However, you could buy it and see... and if it doesn't fit yet put it on a shelf until it does. What about about a different Zaccaro title? Like "become a problem solving genius"? I personally love Theoni Pappas books, I haven't looked at too many, but we ADORE "Penrose the Mathmatical Cat" in our house.

Oh, I hadn't thought of the Critical Thinking Co. books. I"ll have to see what they have in the Math dept. Thanks!

Like "become a problem solving genius"? I've wondered about these as well. I'll have to look a bit closer at them to see if one might work better for us this next year. Capt_Uhura
My library has the Challenge math book by Zacarro. Have you checked your library? I don't recall it being a huge jump from PGCM. LIke someone else said, you could always shelve it.

It is good to hear that you don't think it is a huge jump from PGCM because if it is too much, I'm going to have to find something else for this year. Colleen in SEVA
IMO, there is a big step up in content, but not in presentation. The concepts are still presented in a clear way and could be done with a solid 4th grade math background, or by someone who had completed the PGCM. It seems like there are more problems in the CM than the PGCM. In addition to the 3 levels at the end of each chapter, there are problems in the lesson part of some chapters. DS will be starting 5th grade math this year and will have finished PGCM, so hopefully he will be ready for this. I figure at least he can probably handle the easier levels and we can always come back to the harder levels later. Thanks!
