greenmamato3
i was just looking over the bks 1 and 2 for the CLP spelling. DS has done phonics museum Grade K and 1 as well as MOST of Phonics Pathways (we'll be continuing) and has done ETC 1-4. would it be necessary (or even just advised for "covering all the bases") to start in bk 1 even though it seems to start out quite easy? [i don't mind having something that's "easy" so it builds his confidence in this area even more, since he's a good speller to begin with] OR should i just jump to bk 2?? any body compared similar levels in the Evan Moor, Zaner-Bloser, or Rod&Staff Spelling who could advise me on a place to start in those? i DON"T want to cause problems for him by jumping him ahead. i do want to cover all the ground rules (even from the standpoint of memorizing the spelling rules) . . . but i don't want to bore him, either. which ones of those seem to be the most independent spelling series? MeAndTheBoys
We are doing CLP Spelling 2 this year and I really like the way the exercises are set up. I had bought R&S Spelling 2, and the setup is similar, but it looked too easy. And I wish I had stuck with R&S. CLP has been good, and we will finish the year, but there have been some very strange weeks included--some that are incredibly difficult. One week there were words like "pharmacy", then it was back to "fish". I didn't look at Book 1, so I can't compare. We will not be using CLP next year; I've bought R&S Spelling Grade 3. I do think R&S Spelling is somewhat easier, so it ought be an easy year. He's reading on a 4th or 5th grade level going into 1st grade, but I think I want to keep spelling on the easy side--we can always add in harder words as we come across them in reading and writing. I'm just not LOVING CLP; I think you won't go wrong with either CLP or R&S; they are similar.
