lighthouseacademy
My 7 yr old is loves chess and will play his dad any time he gets a chance. A few days ago my almost 3 year old found the chessboard on the floor and the pieces were not on the board. She proceeded to set up the board correctly in order to "play mommy"! I was shocked that she knew how to set up the board correctly. Then I second guessed it because perhaps my son had set it up and then left to do something (he sometimes does that) and she had taken the board over. Tonight, after my son was in bed, she was matching all the pieces talking about them "now the bishops"... and then proceeded to set the board up again to play daddy. Granted the only pieces she moves correctly are the pawns, and there is absolutely no strategy to her random game, but I was shocked that she knew how to set up the board without anyone ever telling her how. Anyway, I needed to share with someone. I hope you ladies will understand.
specialmama
:D Very observant little Miss you have there! :D Learn from my mistakes though, and hide your credit cards, and don't ever say their numbers out loud on the phone. Next thing you know, these (seemingly random) numbers will be all over Facebook and written in chalk on the sidewalk for all to see! They'll be doodled everywhere, on city bus windows, on foggy mirrors, on thank-you cards to friends/family, and ketchup-fingered on the mall cafeteria tables! MONTHS will go by before you figure it out! And when you do suddenly realize that these numbers were not random at all, you'll spit your coffee out, slap your forehead in Homer Simpson style and yet no D'OH! will be loud enough to muffle the sound of your wheels spinning, trying desperately to remember every.single.place.those.dang.numbers.appeared. *sigh* I'm almost over it. Melinda
What a smart little girl!Hey, maybe the 7yo can teach the 3yo to play chess for real and they can entertain each other. :)
Saille
Cool! This is my favorite thing about having more than one...seeing what particular things they gravitate towards and just "get".
lighthouseacademy
My son is not finding the humor in this... after she played daddy last night, she set it up again with the queens and kings switching places. My son doesn't care that his little sister knew all the other pieces but that those two (the two I still mess up) were wrong! And as for the credit card numbers- OUCH! Quickly hiding my card that was on my desk so I could do some orders yesterday!
Mommy22alyns
That's such a wonderful thing to see... love it when our kids amaze us. Sylvia has surprised me by also picking up the Greek alphabet song. Becca is the one doing Code Cracker, but Sylvia also has the song down. :001_huh:
zaichiki
What a smart little girl!Hey, maybe the 7yo can teach the 3yo to play chess for real and they can entertain each other. :) What my kids have done is to teach the younger one how the pawns and king move, and take the rest of the pieces off the board. They play a game with the little kid with only those pieces. They add pieces one at a time over weeks/months (when the youngest one is ready to remember the rules for its movement). They have fun, even if the older kids STILL want to play "real" chess with someone else later.
