So, I decided to try Fat Loss for Idiots...

Recommended Posts

And I have surprisingly lost 6 pounds and I am only on day 7! I'm shocked. Seriously shocked. I have only felt hungry on one day, and that was day two when all I got to eat all day was a sandwich and as much fruit as I wanted. I find it hard sometimes to get that 4th meal in, but I do it about 90% of the time. I find it hard, because I am not hungry. It's weird. I also had to cheat one day due to circumstances out of my control, and I have still lost.

I am hoping and praying it continues. I know it's probably a lot of water weight, but considering I cannot...CANNOT...seem to loose weight, water or otherwise, with any other diet I have tried the last two years, I'm pretty excited to be down 6 pounds.

I've tried Weight Watchers three times. The first time was about four years ago and I lost 18 pounds rather effortlessly...though hungrily...kept it off for a year and then gradually gained it back along with an extra 10 pounds. The second time was last year and I stuck to the program religiously for two weeks and did not lose a single pound. I gave up. The third time was about six months ago, and when after two weeks of starving myself on low fat food I GAINED two pounds, I threw up my hands in disgust and again...gave up. I've tried Live to Eat (oops...I mean Eat to Live. lol), the MUFA diet, etc., and nothing.

This is the first time my body has responded to weight loss in a very, very long time. :D

I heard about it here on the forums, though I don't recall exactly where. I think it was embedded in a thread about dieting. Anyhow, here is the website: Fat Loss for Idiots

It does cost money ($39) and at first I was a bit disappointed in what I got for my cash...but it's working! So, that beats paying WW or buying another useless diet book. :tongue_smilie: I think my main problem is that my body is pre-menopausal and wanting desperately to hang on to, and add to, my weight. This diet has somehow shaken it up. What is very odd to me is that I feel, at times, since beginning this diet that I have this little engine on inside me...almost like a hot-flash would feel. A heating, or burning inside. I have NO idea what that means! NONE! I am just assuming it's due to the diet as I have never experienced it before.

Tonight for dinner I get bacon wrapped BBQ chicken and green beans. It's very Atkins-y in that you eat a lot of proteins and not many carbs. And I LOVE carbs! Yet, amazingly, I have not been craving them or missing them. It's odd, ODD I TELL YA! :D

Anyhow, you diet for 11 days and then you get to eat what you want for three days. I already know what I want when I get to my free three....a Rubio's Mahi Mahi Burrito! YUM!

Well, now that I've sang it's praises...I hope it works for you too!! By the way, it comes with two diet plans; the diet generator and the diet handbook. They are actually different diets. I am using the Diet Generator as it is suppose to help you lose the most weight. Be sure to look over your generated diet closely. I went a day eating plain everything and then saw at the very back of my list items I could add....and BBQ sauce was one of them. I am, right now actually, enjoying my bacon wrapped BBQ chicken. :-)(Hubby is working late and it's just me and youngest at home....we are eating informal style. Him in front of the TV and me a computer screen!)

Good luck!!

Thanks for posting this! I have been researching the program and plan to buy it, too. Keep us posted on whether the weight stays off. That is my big problem. I can lose a few pounds, but it comes right back on.

RegGuheert is the one who told us about the diet. Here are some links I found that explain it, etc.

And I have surprisingly lost 6 pounds and I am only on day 7!
Congratulations!
I have only felt hungry on one day, and that was day two when all I got to eat all day was a sandwich and as much fruit as I wanted.
Day two was the worst day for me both times I did it. I think moving to 4 meals causes the stomach to contract, which is a little uncomfortable. One benefit, though, is that once the diet is done, you will NOT be able to eat as much as you did before...at least not for a few days.
I heard about it here on the forums, though I don't recall exactly where.
Here is the thread where we discussed this previously. There is a little bit of discussion of my experiences there.
It does cost money ($39) and at first I was a bit disappointed in what I got for my cash...but it's working!
Same here, but I've saved 10X that amount since the diet, so I feel better about it now!
What is very odd to me is that I feel, at times, since beginning this diet that I have this little engine on inside me...almost like a hot-flash would feel. A heating, or burning inside. I have NO idea what that means! NONE! I am just assuming it's due to the diet as I have never experienced it before.
I think the term you are searching for is "Hot and Bothered!" :D

Seriously, I had *exactly* the same experience both times I did the diet! OTOH, MomsintheGarden did not experience this when she did the diet with me last month.

Anyhow, you diet for 11 days and then you get to eat what you want for three days.
Are you REALLY going to restart the diet after just 3 days?? I don't think I could do that! If you do, I'll be interested to hear how much you lose during the second time through...
I already know what I want when I get to my free three....a Rubio's Mahi Mahi Burrito! YUM!
Yes, there certainly is the dreaming of what you will eat when you "get out"! The first time I did this diet, MomsintheGarden gave me a really hard time because I would sit at the table and whine that I couldn't eat what they were having. Second time around she did the diet with me, and she, too, was whining! :D

Clearly I'm not cut out to do a diet that does not have a stopping point, since I enjoy eating so much. Also, like ekarl2, I travel frequently and this diet fits nicely between trips.

Good luck finishing your diet! I hope you make it to 9 pounds! :thumbup1:

Are you REALLY going to restart the diet after just 3 days??

Yep! That's my plan. :D I can't tell you how wonderful it feels to have lost six pounds after struggling for so long to lose even one. So YES, I have every intention of going another 11 days after my three free. Plus, my dh said that if the diet actually works for me that he would do it with me the second time around. Not having to cook yummy homemade burritos and stuff for him each night will make things SO much easier on me. ;)

Surprisingly, I really have not whined too much. I began losing right away, which was very motivating and has helped me not felt deprived. Now with Weight Watchers I felt very deprived because I was hardly eating, hungry every day, and not losing a thing. Ugh! This diet, though somewhat dull, has been wonderful. Plus, the other night I got to have frozen yogurt...that was a nice treat! I looooove frozen nonfat peanut butter yogurt. I almost felt guilty eating it. Almost.

Today, day 8, is going to be a hard one for me I fear. It is salad and vegetables all day. I love salad, but it's not something that sticks to the ribs. I have a feeling this will be a 'hungry' day.

Good luck finishing your diet! I hope you make it to 9 pounds! :thumbup1:

Thanks! I hope I make it to 9 lbs too. It seems mostly men lose that much, and women around 5-6...so we'll see if I drop anymore in these next four days. I think I will. I feel as if I have lost more inches than weight though. My clothes feel much looser than I would give credit to a 6 pound loss. We'll see.

Off to eat some vegi's...for breakfast. Yum. :tongue_smilie:

Yay! I'm starting on Sunday (we're celebrating our 8th wedding anniversary this weekend). That takes me through the following Wednesday. The next day I fly out to Long Beach for the CHEA convention. That will allow me to eat what I like while I travel which will be great. Let's keep this thread going with updates, okay? We can help each other stay on track, okay? When are you starting Lizzy?

Edited to add: Hey, I'm in NC, too! Raleigh!

Erin, it sounds like you have your schedule all worked out nicely! I would love to hear how you do on the diet when you get started.

Remember, day two may be difficult as it's all fruit. Just tell yourself...I willna starve, I willna starve! LOL I can tell you right now that day 8 is tough too. I filled up on a huge plate of broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, and squash w/1 ounce melted cheese about an hour ago...and my stomach is already growling again for food! I ate as much as I could too, I was FULL...but it suuuure didn't last long. Thankfully, the other 9 days are not this way. I think these two 'hard' days are what help stir up your metabolism into a frenzy.

Also, I suggest you ONLY choose foods on the generator that you KNOW that you like. Don't pick broiled flounder thinking you might like it, save that for another time. Instead pick what you know you like. For example, I chose Tuna Salad. Ok, I kinda like Tuna Salad...I do...but I mostly like my tuna in sandwich form. Eating a mound of tuna, even with lettuce, is just not very appetizing to me. I will be striking tuna salad off my second 11 day go-round. ;)

I would LOVE any great food prep ideas you all come up with. I had one meal combo that seemed odd to me. It was ham slices, sausage links, and a bowl of baked beans. Since none of my meals that day were at all breakfasty, I decided to have this combo for breakfast. I cooked the beans and sausage and then sliced up the sausage and mixed it in with the beans. I skipped the ham, though I could have added that in too or used it instead of the sausage, which actually would have made more sense. But, all in all, it actually tasted quite good. Not typical breakfast fare, but I was full and satisfied. :D I also add my cashews into my tuna salad, along with onion, tomato and lettuce when my meal is tuna salad & cashews. Not super appetizing diet meals to be sure, but very, very easy!

Also, be SURE you plan ahead and have everything you need at home!

Good grief....

I sound like I've been using this diet for years instead of 8 days!

Y'all have piqued my interest. I may try this diet after we come back from vacation. The difficulty is going to be that I exercise a lot. I am at the gym 4x/week to do 45 minutes to an hour of weights and I also do 45 minutes on the treadmill two of those times. I do 18-24 laps at the pool 4-5x/week when I take the kids.

I could definitely cut back on the exercise, but I can't eliminate it for eleven days. I also have physical therapy exercises that I do at home to keep my knees in shape. I was just released from PT last week.

Make that 3. I just signed up too, goodness knows I can spare a "few" pounds.

I've printed out my menu, now I just have to pick a start date and pick up some fresh fruit and cottage cheese. However, I am wondering what dh is going to say when I start eating his oatmeal.:)

Oatmeal and turkey slices???

 Yeah, sounds yummy huh? But you know what, if you heat them turkey slices and roll them up, they'll taste kinda like turkey breakfast sausages. Mmmmm...turkey sausage and oatmeal...not so bad afterall!

Also, remember that you don't have to eat everything allowed in each 'meal.' You can eat just the oatmeal if you so choose and eliminate the turkey altogether. I find the added protein helps keep me from getting hungry though. Oatmeal never sticks long for me, some added protein with it helps glue it to the insides better. ;)

I found this thread on another message board:

http://weight-loss.fitness.com/weight-loss-programs/11185-my-fat-loss-4-idiots-diet-plan.html

A woman wrote exactly what she ate for the 11 days.

Towards the last pages of the thread, there is some bickering (on a message board! on the internets! shocking!) and a few messages saying how great the program is from posters w/only 1 post.

HTH someone.

So, what are you mixing with the tuna? Unless I misread, you're not supposed to have mayo. What else except mayo or perhaps lemon juice does one add to tuna to keep it from being dry?

Why do I feel like I'm hearing, "Come on in, the waters fine.":)

Sure, I spent the money, might as well jump on in. This whole limited calories in coffee thing might prove to be an issue though. Good thing I like unsweetened ice tea. Do they make low dose caffeine pills?

So, Monday's menu: Breakfast - oatmeal and bacon (yummm); Lunch - hard boiled eggs (not a problem); Dinner - Chicken and mixed veggies (sounds pretty normal); Snack - turkey, strawberries, and cottage cheese (more than doable).

Tuesday, on the other hand, I'm saving that sandwich for dinner.:)

Now I'm curious. I've been looking at some of the enclosed links and one of the things I saw was that on this plan you are not supposed to eat until you are full....well, if I stopped before I was full I wouldn't have a weight problem to begin with.

Can someone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks,

Alison

Hi Alison,

Basically, the idea is to eat until you are satisfied, but no more. Not "full". On top of that, you eat four meals each day, which means that you eat less at each meal than you normally would.

In my case, there was NO WAY I could eat as much after the diet finished than before I started. I assume my stomach was smaller after the diet than before I started.

You basically don't want to eat until you are stuffed and cannot take another bite. You stop when you are satisfied, and no longer hungry, but not "full."

This hasn't been a problem for me so far. Proteins are usually very filling. Now if they were allowing me to eat pizza...forget it! I love pizza and tend to eat until I'm stuffed just because it tastes so good. :D (Hmmm....I wonder how I gained all this weight??) Actually, they state in the diet plan, somewhere, that pizza is one of those foods that should never cross your lips. Ha! I live with four males! No more homemade pizza? They'd kick me out for sure.

So, what are you mixing with the tuna? Unless I misread, you're not supposed to have mayo.

When you print out your generated meal plan you will find at the end of it "Food Preparation Instructions" for each meal item. Under Tuna Salad plate it states: You may prepare your tuna with any of the following: low fat mayo, mustard, lettuce, onions, or tomato.

So, I use low-fat mayo. :D

With your scrambled eggs you are allowed to cook them in butter or oil. Your cottage cheese can be regular fat, or low-fat. And your oatmeal can be the flavored kind...you're just not allowed to add more sugar to it.

It's really a very easy diet to follow and prepare, just a bit bland if you are used to big meals with lots of variety (meat, potatoes, vegi, bread, salad).

Okay ... TOMORROW's the DAY! I bought the food, the plan's in place. Tomorrow morning I will stand on my Wii Fit and "Wii-in" (get it, like "weight in") for the first time in a few weeks. It will mock me and yell at me. I will then get on this thread and post its results for ALL TO SEE. Thanks to those of you who are planning to go on this journey, too. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm on the north side, around Glenwood and Lynn Road.

Okay, all. Here's the straight scoop. I "wii-ed in" this morning. It was worse than I thought! I weighed 199.3 this morning. Just to give some perspective ... I'm 5'10" and my goal weight is 172. I was 262 when I had Tank 17 months ago. Nursing (God's BEST diet plan!) got me down to 182 in March, then I weaned Tank and the number started going up again.

I'm enjoying sausage and a pineapple-orange smoothie. Yummy!

Which leads me to the question I've been wondering all along. Okay, so you lose all of this weight very quickly, but you can never go back to enjoying some of the foods you once enjoyed, so the only benefit of this diet over any other food limiting diet is that the weight initially comes off faster?

I mean, I would lose weight anyway if I stopped eating things like pizza. And if I didn't, the weight would come back, right?

I've used this diet twice and have gone back to eating whatever I want, including pizza (and brownies!), when not on the diet. The exception in my case is that I have eliminated milk (and all other liquid calories) from my diet. I did the diet in late August 2008 and in May 2009. Overall, I'm about 38 lbs. lighter than I was previously. If I start creeping up, I may do it again to lop off another 10 lbs., given it is so easy.

Thanks.

I have 10 more pounds I would like to lose, and I do exercise almost every day, and generally I eat pretty healthy.

I exercise enough to handle a glass of wine, an occasional dessert, etc., but I am not able to indulge in those things and actually lose at the same time. In other words, I could maintain my weight but not lose. Does that make sense?

I would love to drop down to where I need to be and then just maintain. I enjoy exercising, and I am doing it for many benefits beyond weight loss.

I also enjoy eating healthy, but I don't enjoy not being able to ever splurge on a margherita pizza, a glass of wine, cheese and crackers, etc.

I think blanket statements like, "No pizza!" are silly. I can make a VERY low fat, high fiber healthy pizza that tastes great. There's a big difference between Domino's and a whole wheat margharita pizza, you know?

BTW, Melissa, can you give us an update on how you're doing???

Can you sub margarine for butter in the scrambled eggs? Can I use low fat milk instead of water in the instant oatmeal?

You only eat this way for 11 days. The pizza thing is just what someone paraphrased. The diet doesn't dictate your future eating plans:o)

The 11 days are designed to change your metabolism.

It seems most women lose about 5 lbs. in the 11 days and then keep it off when they go back to regular healthy eating. Men seem to lose more. You must wait at least 3 days before starting the 11 day thing again (though you don't have to start it up again if you don't want to.) It's all about changing your metabolism. The book Crack the Fat Loss Code is similar in methodology, but harder (IMHO) to carry out. http://www.amazon.com/Crack-Fat-Loss-Code-Outsmart-Metabolism/dp/007154691X

I saw that on Amazon when I searched for calorie shift. It sure is cheaper than the FL4I program!

Wanna start Sunday with me Peggy?

I know I said I'd start with you on Sunday, but I messed up. Not "messed up" as in I ate my oatmeal and then didn't follow the rest of the menu. Messed up as in, you wouldn't believe what I ate at 3:00 this morning (very, very bad habit). Dare I say this might be the root of the weight gain.

So, because of the pb&j sandwich, cupcake, and milk (hey, what can I say) I had before dawn, I will be starting tomorrow.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Does this mean that you are an idiot? Happy for you! I wish I could try it!:glare:

Does this diet work because it actually changes your metabolism in some way,

or,

is it merely a way to get you to eat fewer calories? I know for me, it would be difficult to put away too many hard boiled eggs all by themselves. Same with pinto beans, tuna, etc., etc. With variety, I naturally will eat more because different tastes compliment each other. But, I will still lose weight if I watch calories, regardless of the types of foods they are.

Just curious as to the method behind the diet.

Ok everyone, here is my update...

Today was day 12, so I got to eat my Rubio's Mahi Mahi burrito. It was delicious to say the least. I could barely get it eaten though, my stomach has shrunk considerably. In fact, that is all I have eaten today and it's 4:40 PM. I wasn't hungry before church, so I didn't eat, and I haven't had dinner yet.

OK, total weight loss is 6 1/2 pounds. I was a bit disappointed that I didn't make it to the 9 pounds, but I kinda knew I probably wouldn't. As already mentioned, it seems the men lose more than the women. Because I lost 6 of them in the first 7 days, I was rather frustrated these last 4 days...and getting REALLY sick of tuna salad! That is DEFINITELY coming off my next menu! gag! Anyhow, I still think 6 1/2 pounds in 11 days is great, and considering what I mentioned about my other diet attempts (losing zero in two weeks, gaining 2 pounds after dieting two weeks...) losing 6 pounds is a nice thing. I am going to start up again after the 4th. I had planned to start in 3 days, but hubby reminded me of the 4th coming up and shoot, I want BBQ and ice cream! LOL

I seriously think that if I stick to the rule of stopping before being "full" then I will be able to keep these 6 off until my next go-round. I sure can't eat very much in one sitting now, so as long as I don't go hog-wild, I should be A-OK. ;)

Also, to give some perspective, I am 5'6" with a starting weight of 166 1/2 lbs. I am now at 160 lbs. My normal average weight since reaching my 20's has always been 140-143. That's a healthy good weight for me. I started packing on extra pounds for no apparent reason about four years ago (at 40 yrs old....hmm?) So, that should give somewhat of a perspective in weight loss/size. I know that the more one has to lose, the more one loses initially and the less one has to lose, the longer it takes to come off, but this diet seems to work pretty consistently for most. Women seem to lose on average 5 pounds, men on average 9.

I can't wait to hear how you all do!! Please keep us updated.

Well, considering I could not lose ANYTHING using Weight Watchers, I think there has to be something unique to this diet. Yes, the food gets very bland and it's not like you are craving more and more of it, but I was that way with ww and didn't lose.

Okay, I decided to try it, too. I bought it, printed it, and will go to the store today to get the food and start tomorrow. I hope I can make it!

Can you sub margarine for butter in the scrambled eggs? Can I use low fat milk instead of water in the instant oatmeal?

I think the margarine is OK, but I wouldn't use the milk in my oatmeal. ;)

Not trying to be a pain the rear, but I looked into the shrinking stomach thing:

http://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/features/nine-surprising-facts-about-your-stomach

2. Myth or Fact: If you cut down on your food intake, you'll eventually shrink your stomach so you won't be as hungry.

Answer: Myth. Once you are an adult, your stomach pretty much remains the same size -- unless you have surgery to intentionally make it smaller. Eating less won't shrink your stomach, says Moyad, but it can help to reset your "appetite thermostat" so you won't feel as hungry, and it may be easier to stick with your eating plan.

3. Myth or Fact: Thin people have naturally smaller stomachs than people who are heavy.

Answer: Myth. While it may seem hard to believe, the size of the stomach does not correlate with weight or weight control. People who are naturally thin can have the same size or even larger stomachs than people who battle their weight throughout a lifetime. "Weight has nothing to do with the size of the stomach. In fact, even people who have had stomach-reducing surgeries, making their tummy no larger than a walnut, can override the small size and still gain weight," says Levy.
