*********
I'm thinking that would be a good way to teach ds6. You know, it would be easier to look things up if he know what order the books are in. Right now, he looks up the book in the front of his Bible to find what page number the book starts on. But I'd like to help him memorize them in order, and I thought that a song would be the best way to go. This has worked for him for other things that he's had trouble memorizing; once, we made up a little tune for helping him remember how many sides a pentagon and a hexagon have. :001_smile: But that was two lines long; I don't think I can write a song for 66 books of the Bible. :D So, anyone know of one? Staci in MO
It was only for the Old Testament books, because ds had already learned the New Testament. It was to the tune of Ten Little Indians. I burned it on a CD, played it in the car, and voila, he learned the Old Testament books. I would imagine you could find some on there for New Testament, too. Whereneverever
I learned them in elementary via. song- but it was just the exact words to a tune. So that's not a big help, sorry!
Julie in MN
We know a lot of them, but ds thinks the funnest one is here: http://pkmi.org/pages/music_cds.htm If you scroll down a bit, you can listen to some of it. He also has it on a video, with Ronnie singing with a little hand puppet, who's fainting when he tries to sing it really fast :)
mom2denj
My dd12 just mastered the books of the bible in 2 weeks using this song. My 3 year old can also recite up to 1 and 2 chronicles. Good Luck!

FO4UR
We didn't use a song, and my ds6 and dd4 both have all the books memorized ....ds3 is close. We recite them every morning right before we read the Bible. I started with just the first 5, and we did those for a week...the next week we did the first 5 + the next 3 ....the next week we added 3 more.....and so on. It takes a while, but the books are in those brains - SOLID - LOL! After about a month of reciting all the books together, I started having them recite a section each week (historical books, gospels, minor prophets, etc, etc) and every Monday we recite the entire Bible. This way, they not only know the books in order, but they begin to understand how they are organized. We do listen to http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/B0007XL39W/ref=dp_image_0?ie=UTF8&n=5174&s=music but ironically, we found this CD after we had memorized the books and the kids think they sing it "wrong.":001_huh::lol: (not in Mommy's rhythmic pattern...) Penny from Tenny
I was actually working on our memory schedule for next year and came across this site that has free flashcards to print as well as other ideas for memorizing the books of the bible. I'll probably print mine on cardstock so they'll last longer. They have a few song ideas as well. Maybe it will be helpful. http://www.ebibleteacher.com/children/books-of-the-Bible.htm
WiseOwlKnits
Wee Sing Bible Songs has them. Our kids adore that CD and are always begging us to put it on!

FlockOfSillies
Colin Buchanan has one for each testament. We've enjoyed the "Baa Baa Doo Baa Baa" CD an awful lot.
In the Rain
I'll have to check out some of these links. If you know anyone in Awana, they have a song for the New Testament and one for the Old Testament. That is how we learned them. Actually, that is how 6yo dd learned them. I still don't know the last half of the OT. :tongue_smilie:
