Starting Points, SL Core 100, and Lightning Lit for 9th grade?

I already own SL Core 100, but I don't want to use it as-is. I just want to use the Hakim books with John Holzmann's notes, but use traditional literature instead of the historical fiction.

I was thinking of using Stobaugh's American Literature course, simply because I am familiar with almost all of the works included. However, it may be a little heavy for my thirteen year old son. I'd rather reserve those works for later in high school.

Also, I really want to do a worldviews course of some kind with him, and he thinks he'd enjoy Starting Points. I think I'd enjoy it, too.

Soooo....how would it be to combine the history portion of SL Core 100, Starting Points, and Lightning Lit American Literature? Nathaniel is pretty bookish, so I think he can handle the workload if I just trim things here and there if he gets overwhelmed.

I appreciate any thoughts on my latest brainstorm for 9th grade.

I think I am going to have my boys do Starting Points and use the SL100 IG to progress through Hakim. Although, I read that the Oxford Tests for Hakim are high school level so they will do those in correlation with the SL100 IG.

We have the readers and more - they can read those in any order this year.

I do not know about the other Lit. programs that you mentioned.

I plan to use the tests for Hakim, too. We also have the 100 readers, and Nate is working through them on his own. So it sounds like our two households will be following the same plan for Starting Points and history.

I think Lightning Literature will provide the missing classical American literature/lit analysis. It looks light enough to be enjoyable and not burdensome.
