History for 5th -- questions?

World history (starting with ancients) or American history at this grade level -- or both?

Does the Hakim series plus Human Odyssey (K12) sound reasonable? If so, how would you implement both?

Dd will be doing standardized testing in the fall (beginning 5th), so I'm trying to consider this as well.

Thanks for any advice.

Have you ever done standardized testing before? We have only done the ITBS, but actual historical facts are not stressed. Actually,if your kiddos are familiar with major public school holidays they should do fine.

I did ancients for 5th, but we also did a little reading about American history, esp. Lincoln because of all the Obama/Lincoln talk. It worked out just fine.

Claire, we have done testing before. She was fine with the ITBS, but I believe this fall she is taking the Stanford (which I am not familiar with).

What did you use for ancients?

Thanks.

Sorry it took so long for me to respond...we have been running around with the baseball team all weekend. :auto:

I started doing the ancients ala TWTM, but I needed a change. I started to get really bogged down in ancient Egypt.

I wound up buying Sonlight and I love, love, love, love it.

hth!
