chadzwife
Anyone use this for little kids? I have all of it, used it several yrs with the oldsters. Now the itty-bitties are coming up...and I'm wondering about grammar for them. I am not impressed with the lit choices in First Grammar Lessons by Jessie Wise. Nor the ones in SWB's writing program for that matter. I am not doing myths and such with my little ones...that's for later in their educations... BUT I do like the methodology in these programs. Having HSled now for errrr, well my one son is 25 with a grandbaby, ahem, anyway---I've seen it all come and go. These women have a REAL good on grip on effective pedagogy. Does LLAtL seem to anyone like it would be worthwhile? I'd have to add narration as I'm pretty sure I don't remember doing it with the oldsters. sigh I can't decide which of the thousand CM or Ruth Beechick!) type grammar books out there to use... ARGH :001_huh: (
LindaOz
My 5 school aged children are all using LLATL including my 1st grader who is using the Red book. I haven't used Blue as we used a different early phonics program, but phonics instruction continues on in Red as well. Grammar is introduced in context of literature passages and I really like the way it is made relevant, yet they are still learning their grammar. My dd6 is in the early stages of Red book and is learning pronouns, common and proper nouns, and adjectives. I add narration too, but that is easily done separately after other readings. chiguirre
I'm finishing Blue with dd and Red with ds, but we also use other things including WWE. LLATL does include narration of both the readers and the read-alouds with some questions to guide you normally. OTOH, there are a lot of Aesop's fables in LLATL so in that sense it's very similar to FLL and WWE. You'd have to look at the contents to see if it will work for you. corbie
I have used blue for K, red for 1st/2nd, and currently using yellow for 3rd. Blue Book worked great for my 5 yr old. She's almost 8 now and reads at a 5th or 6th grade level. She also loves reading. I have enjoyed the program, but I'm a little burned out with it. I'm really supplementing alot at the 3rd grade level. I may return to Blue Book for my kindergartener in the fall. I will keep using yellow, but only a couple of days a week. We're using WWE and possibly FLL. I sort of think Blue Book works best with girls. There is a lot of cutting and coloring. Although some boys enjoy those activities, many of them do not. Just my thoughts. HTH
