Lucy the Valiant
I'm new-ish to this forum, and am looking for some good book lists for a 5yo who reads chapter books. I *know* there's a list here somewhere . . . can someone help point me in the right direction? Stuff like Trumpeter of the Swan, Charlotte's Web, . . . that kind of stuff. Lucy the Valiant
Umm . . . still learning how to do a link . . . title is "Early, avid readers" . . . it's not a list, per se, but I'm hoping someone there will help point me in the right direction. Kfamily
Laura Corin has a great list of books for strong but young readers. If you find one of her posts and click onto her blog you will find on the side a list that links you to her list on Amazon. HTH

Jen in PA
:iagree: I use Laura's lists to select read-alouds and choose books for dd to read on her own. They are wonderful!
Laura Corin
I'm glad they are helpful. I just re-read them and think the later ones could do with some editing: after taking a second child through those years, I've found more books that might flesh the lists out. When I have time... Best wishes Laura
Mommy2BeautifulGirls
I see HP and the Sorcerer's Stone on that list. I had been wanting to read that to my daughter, but I wasn't sure if she was ready or not. Of course, her 4-year-old sister would be listening in, too. Do you think they might be ready? Or should I wait a few years?
Laura Corin
The first book isn't too scary, depending on your child, of course. I would hesitate to go much further on in the series though, as there are deaths of beloved characters with an overarching feeling of impending disaster, and redemption takes a long time to arrive. Because you might get a lot of pressure to go on further in the series, it might be better to wait a bit. Laura
Mommy2BeautifulGirls
I think I agree. She told me that she can't wait until she is old enough to watch the movies. She knows I'm a big Harry Potter fan. I told her in another year or so I might read her the first book. Of course, by then she could probably read it on her own.
