mom2tbcnm
My ds going into 5th grade has completed R&S 3rd and 4th grade Grammar books. This year, I am trying to spend as little as possible on hs curric (dh without a job) I found a copy of Easy Grammar for 5-6th grades that I can check out of our church library. How do you like EG? is it as intensive as RS? I don't need the writing, but I just wonder if it will be as good as RS for the grammar basics. Any opinions? thanks Katty

Storm Bay
We use Easy Grammar for a couple of grades before we start R&S. I like R&S better overall. What I like about Easy Grammar is that it makes prepositions so much easier to learn; this is why we tried it in the first place. My eldest is good at grammar overall, but when she was 8 had a hard time with prepositions. I like the diagramming in R&S (this is one of the main reasons we started; once someone convinced me of the merit of diagramming) and overall have been happy with R&S. I wouldn't go from R&S to EG unless my dc had trouble with prepositions, though.

Storm Bay
So wanna share the merit of diagramming:001_smile: Alison :tongue_smilie: Not good at explaining it. I grew up in Canada and we didn't diagram in any hs I went to, not even when I was in CA. Someone on the old boards helped me understand this 3 or 4 years ago. I will say that seeing the grammar visually does help a huge deal, and that's what I think diagramming does. It shows the relationships of the words in a sentence far better than any oral presentation or written explanation I've read.
Ellie
If you only want grammar, then EG is my favorite, *especially* given your circumstances.
DebonLI
as I recall, EG, focuses on finding prepositional phrases. R&S has writing assignments, which EG doesn't. I gave my EG away and used R&S.
