nanette Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Last Wednesday (2-27) she came down with the flu. (At least I think that is what is was) For 3 days she had a fever of up to 104. She was achy and only had a small appetite. Since Saturday her fever has been fluctuating between 99.5 and 101. She has had a dry cough (it really starts to bother her in the evening), a little nose congestion, and still a small appetite. She has basically been on the couch or in bed all of these days. Not sleeping though. I guess I am most concerned with her fluctuating temp. and her cough. I am a worry-some person though. If it makes any differecne, my dh is finally better today since getting sick 8 days ago. He still has a slight cough. Quote
Mrs Mungo Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I would call the doctor and see what he/she says about it. Quote
shell in SC Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 nanette. . . I think the worst is over. You actually described me to a "T" when I had the flu a few weeks ago. After the initial "sick as a dog" symptoms wore off I did run a low grade fever for a few days. My appetite was small until I actually started feeling normal. Unless she gets worse all of a sudden I wouldn't worry about taking her to the dr. There are people around here at work that have had the cough for a couple weeks so I think that's normal too. HTH! shell Quote
Jennifer in MI Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Yup - what they said. This ran through our family too. The cough lasts forever! But, if you want some piece of mind - call your doctor and see what he/she has to say. I know I feel better if other people have had the same thing so I know approximately how long it will last. Diane Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 This is just me, but I think I'd take her to the dr., even if just to put your mind at ease. What you described sounded like me when I had pneumonia. Quote
Amy in Orlando Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 This sounds like what we all had over the past two weeks. I did take my son in because his fever lasted a lot longer than the rest of us. He did have bronchitis and the anitbiotics cleared his cough up pretty quickly. Quote
Soph the vet Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Err on the side of caution and call the doctor. The persistent fever may indicate something that needs more than a home remedy. Quote
Heather in the Kootenays Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I just got my dd back from the Doctor with similar symptoms. She had an ear infection as well as a cold so I'm glad I went. Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Your dd's symptoms are exactly what we are going through right now. Ours started Wed. too. We're holding off on the doc. unless the temperatures start to go high again or unless there is no change by Wed. We are showing some glimmers of starting to turn a corner to get better. Dh warns me not to overdo it as we start to feel better or we'll be right back where we started. This is a nasty one! Quote
nanette Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 I took my dd to the doctor today. He checked her ears, throat, and listened to her lungs. Her fever was only 100 at the doctor. He said she seems fine except for some congestion. I have to have her use "Just Saline" (which she does not like!) and use a humidifier at night. If her fever is not all gone by Friday, he said to bring her back. I am so gald she did not have anything worse. :) Quote
Laura in VA Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I'm glad she's ok. My daughter went through the same thing. :) Quote
