Marie in Oh Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 My menu tonight is pulled pork sandwiches, cole slaw, and corn on the cob. Two of my girls have gymnastics from 4:30-6:30, so I have the pork in the crock pot, and I am making the cole slaw ahead of time. Now, for the corn on the cob, I am trying to figure out how to have it cooked when we get home. I have thought of the following, but I am not sure how they would turn out: 1. Wrap them in foil and have the oven programed to turn on at 6:30 so they will "bake" for 30 minutes before we get home. 2. Put them in an 9 X 11 baking dish with some water on the bottom and cover it with foil, and program it for the same as above so they steam. Not sure how long this would take. 3. Put them in a pot and cover them with water and just turn them on on the top of the stove when we get home. What do you all think? Would either of the first two work? Thanks so much. Quote
Doran Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 What do you all think? Would either of the first two work? I've never cooked corn this way, but it sounds plausible to me. If the corn is still "husk on", I would soak the corn, husk and all, in water for an hour or more right now. Then, wrap that in foil and set the oven on timed bake as you were considering before. If it's already without husks, I'd try number 2 and set the oven to bake for maybe 40 minutes before you get home...10 to warm up and heat up the water, another 30 to steam. Let us know how it turns out..and come cook at my house, would ya'? ;) Doran Quote
Ria Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I would do option #2, except cover with plastic wrap and microwave it. That's how we always do our corn. Ria Quote
Whisperlily Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I've also heard that microwaving corn in the husk gives good results. Quote
