imeverywoman
I am so aggravated. I cannot tell you how much it irks me that I cannot get a book list for the resources used in TOG year 1, neither can I see a sufficient amount of Omnibus in order to know which, if either, will be my product of choice. Previously, TOG had a link on their page which explained exactly which resources were used, with the link to Amazon. What happened?
happygrrl
I am so aggravated. I cannot tell you how much it irks me that I cannot get a book list for the resources used in TOG year 1, neither can I see a sufficient amount of Omnibus in order to know which, if either, will be my product of choice. Previously, TOG had a link on their page which explained exactly which resources were used, with the link to Amazon. What happened? Go the TOG website and click on "Bookshelf"; there you can enter Yr. 1 and the learning level you are interested in. It will then list the books used. Lampstand Press no longer sells the books themselves, hence the Bookshelf site. I had the same problem with Omnibus... I know I can see the booklist via the catalog, but I am more interested in a sample of the questions and so on. There is a sample of the first few pages of Omni 1 on the Veritas Press website but it was not enough for me. HTH!
PeterPan
http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100194&highlight=gilgamesh You might find this thread helpful. The sample of Omnibus on VP's website is for Genesis, whereas in this thread some people who have done O explained how it handled Gilgamesh. Now that I'm reading through O1 and the books myself, I'm really impressed with it. It still leaves some holes and things unanswered, but it's something I can work with. It's a reading course, that's for sure. It's also pretty straightforward to implement, with less extras and doodads than TOG. But you can find comparisons by other experienced users to help you sort through that. I was just surprised, having seen the comments that O would be easier to implement than TOG, to find myself agreeing with them. But I'm just doing it myself, to prepare for dd in a couple years. I figure I better get my headstart now, before this little one starts to walk! :)
Janice in NJ
For TOG books, go here. You can use the white drop-down tabs to view by year, by unit, by learning level, or by subjects. I think that you will find that this set-up is much more informative than the old Amazon lists. http://www.bookshelfcentral.com/ Have you seen the free 3-week sample of Year One for TOG? If your library has the books, you can try it out for free to see if you like it. http://www.tapestryofgrace.com/year1/#3 I can't help with Omnibus, but hopefully someone will chime in. If you want to search the boards, I think Karenciavo did a nice explanation of the pros/cons of TOG and Omnibus I; I believe that she had both as she went through ancient history. As I remember it was a well-done post - full of reasons why TOG was a better fit for her family and why Omni might be a better fit for others (which always helps me better than just a list of likes and dislikes). Peace, Janice Enjoy your little people Enjoy your journey P.S. I couldn't tell from your post if you already understand how TOG works or not. :001_smile: But if you need more free info about the program, start here: http://www.tapestryofgrace.com/explore/ The last tab titled "How do I get started?" will give you links to the free samples along the left side of the page. And if you visit their virtual conference booth, you can join a free webinar next week where Marcia will explain the philosophy behind the program; she included a brief Q&A at the end. Click on "Workshops" http://www.lampstandpress.com/conferences/calendar/index.php Hope that helps. :001_smile: Edited June 7, 2009 by Janice in NJ
Melissa B
There were samples of Omnibus in these resource pages. The Dialectic and Rhetoric guide used to outline all six years of Omnibus as well. Sorry I can't open the links to verify that this is still true (I read them a couple of years ago.) I have satellite internet now and it would use up my downloads for the day. http://resources.veritaspress.com/SL_Resource_Download.asp

ChemMommy
and asked for a more extensive sample of Omnibus I. They were happy to give me a larger sample.

Laurie in CA
Try to download the Scope and Sequence for the year you want. This gives a pretty good idea of what the study is on and the books that you will cover at least at the Rhetoric level. They also have a scope and sequence for years 2 and 3. You may have to set up an account to log in, etc. You will be able to get more information if you do that. Here are some links. Hope they work. http://www.tapestryofgrace.com/year1/ScopeAndSequence1.pdf http://www.tapestryofgrace.com/year2/ScopeAndSequence2.pdf http://www.tapestryofgrace.com/year3/ScopeAndSequence3.pdf
