Sue G in PA Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Okay, so I've read the discussions about Simply Spelling, checked it out and it looks good. My dc are doing SWO and it's "okay". Their retention is good for a week or so after test day, but not great after that. Dd11 will be finishing SWO H next year. I had planned to continue SWO for my boys, but now I wonder... My questions: WHat book do I order? It looks like there is a Grade 3 and Grade 4 book (separate) and then a Grade 3 - 12 book. Which do I order and why aren't there separate books for the other grades? Also, I see that grades 9 - 12 aren't even ready for publication yet...so why is there a Grades 3-12 book if grades 9-12 aren't even ready? Somebody please help me figure out how and what to order! TIA...I appreciate it! Oh, btw, my grades next year will be 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 7th. Quote
jg_puppy Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I think the book 3-12 has the information for all of the grades listed, but not room for the children to actually work in the book. This is what is says about the 3rd grade book "A special workbook with large print for copywork and to mark. Plenty of space to write and copy." Jan Quote

I think the author made the 3rd and 4th grade books and then finished the whole series but decided to sell the whole thing instead of dividing it up by grade level. This is great for the consumer although she lost an opportunity to make more money. I have the grades 3-12 book, it contains LEVELS, Level A is for 3rd and you move through the levels as your child ages. The levels increase in difficulty. There IS 9-12 grade work in the combined book. Hope this helps clear things up, Quote
Sue G in PA Posted March 3, 2008 Author Posted March 3, 2008 So, I would do better by just ordering the 3-12 book and use it for all my dc? Do you use the workbooks at all? Seems redundant to buy them as well as the 3-12 book. Quote
Trivium Academy Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 No workbooks, just have them write on their own paper and keep in a notebook. I love non-consumable products! Quote

cajun.classical Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I couldn't figure out who shared about Simply Spelling but now I know! It was Angelina! Thank you! And I purchased it this Fall after a recommendation by Angela in Ohio. So thanks to her as well. I would have never discovered this program if she hadn't mentioned it, and I couldn't be happier with it. Quote
