mazakaal
I had planned on using Lively Latin with my dd when she gets to 3rd grade. She's finishing 1st grade now and is showing a lot of interest in learning Latin. I thought I'd use Song School Latin for 2nd grade, but now I'm wondering if we're going to have the money for it. So what would be a good second choice for Latin in 2nd grade given what I've got on hand. 1) I have an old TM for Prima Latina, so I could use that to teach her and just type up some worksheets based on the answer pages in the TM. 2) I also have LL, so I could just start LL in 2nd grade and take it really slowly. 3) I also have LC 1 and 2 and LP 1 and 2 which are way too old for her. With all these Latin materials on hand, I could just make up some word lists and chants and have her learn those. So based on what I have, or any other free options you can think of, what do you think is my best bet? Thanks.
Chris in VA
Prima is a gentle intro to Latin--only 5 words per week, plus a line of a prayer or saying. I think it's perfect!
RegularMom
My 2nd grader requested starting Latin early this year, too. We're using Lively Latin, and she really enjoys it. I take it slowly and don't require her to know some of the grammatical things she hasn't covered in English yet. When we get to those lessons, I take her gently through it and assure her that she'll get to all that again in English next year. It's really worked well for us. Woodland_Mom
:iagree: I would do Lively Latin as well. Take advantage of her interest in the subject! If you finish before you had planned, why not put together a some review pages, or add to what she learned using the LL book by making some of your own pages. Another option would be to move into Latin for Children. We us it and my son LOVES the activity book that goes with it.
