Deanna in TN
For the Citizenship in the Community Boy Scout Merit Badge, my son needs to watch a movie that shows how the actions of one person or group of people can have a positive effect on a community. I would like one that is rated no higher than PG. Thanks, Deanna
sarahli
Joshua would be an excellent film for this, it is a Christian film if that is an issue.
Janet in Toronto
I was going to recommend Pay It Forward but it's PG-13.
Blueridge
A fantastic movie with Ed McMurray is Follow Me Boys. It is the story of the beginning of the Boy Scouts, and our family loved it. There are a couple of good movies about teachers who made a difference to their students, which would change their communities as well. The Marva Collins Story with Cicely Tyson, and Stand And Deliver with Edward James Almos. Both are a bit dated, but still inspiring. Edited May 25, 2009 by Blueridge added another possibility

whitestavern
I second Follow Me Boys. It's a WONDERFUL movie. DD9 and DS6 enjoyed it very much as well.
JFSinIL
My son used Sergeant York. I think Boys Town, about Father Flanagan, would also be good.
Melinda in VT
Would Newsies work? Or is striking against the Boy Scout spirit?
Alessandra
Because of Winn-Dixie comes to mind. It is a story of a girl, just moved to town, living in a trailer, no friends. Well, she adopts a dog (Winn-Dixie) and the dog helps her make friends. She ends befriending all kinds of people -- the town librarian, a "crazy" woman no ones talks to, etc. At the end of the movie, there is a party at the "crazy" woman's house. All kinds of people that were in the town but never really knew each other come to the party and get to know each other for the first time. It is all because of the girl ... and Winn-Dixie (the dog).
