Wendy in ME
We have been chipping away at LCI this year for 4th grade but I keep coming back to check out Lively Latin for a few reasons. I like that it more clearly includes English grammar because we don't do a separate grammar class, I like that it includes that Roman history so I don't have to also squeeze in Famous Men of Rome, and I think it will be more interesting for him. He will turn 10 in June and be 5th grade level next year. He is a "young" student but I have read many times that Lively Latin is great for young students. Would it be too young for him? Alana in Canada
My son is 10.5 and very keen on the Romans. It is perfect for him, but then we haven't had any latin prior to this. I think it is right on target for this age group--the derivatives are a bit challenging--almost too much so for the seven year old.
Debra in CO
My son was chipping away at LCI last year for 4th grade. We were both getting very frustrated (I have no prior Latin) and felt quite lost. We switched to Lively Latin late last year, and it must have been within a month or two of his 10th birthday. It was the one of the very best semi-impulse purchases I've ever made. I don't think it is too young for him. When we are using it (we took a break and did a class Sept-Dec) he can move fairly quickly through it, since he has some Latin background and since he is a bit older. But he has been learning a lot, he enjoys it, and I think the derivative work is among the best I've seen anywhere. I plan to have my second son start it in the fall, and he'll be nearly 10 (November birthday) and a 4th grader. I know it won't be too young for him either. Linda...inOwasso
Lol... well, ummm, I'm 40 and it's not too young for me! :)
OceanBreeze
My 3rd grader is using it. That was the minimum age for the classes given by the author, but she has older students in her class. It's a lot of fun and I think your child will do just fine. Jenelle
Wendy in ME
Thanks to everyone who replied. I am definately going to start this with him and have my older ds 12 use Latin in the Christian Trivium next year. Latin is really clicking for him and it is his favorite subject. 10yo is holding his own but I think LL will be a better program for him. Latin is not coming easily for him so maybe if he is more interested and has more variety it will go better.
