I had LASIK surgery yesterday. I went from 20/1000 vision ---NOT being able to see the big E on the eye chart to perfect vision in less than 1 hour---actually 26 seconds per eye.

It was a little weird and a few minutes were a little uncomfortable but not painful. I had to keep my eyes closed most of the day yesterday and wear goggle like shields when I slept.

I am still adjusting to not wearing glasses---something I have done for 30 years. It is just WONDERFUL to wake up and be able to SEE.

I still have to be very careful not to get dust/dirt in my eyes or rub them but otherwise I am good to go. I just wear the goggle shields to the barn when I do chores as well.

If you are considering it, I would say GO FOR IT.

Yay! I had LASIK done about 8 years ago, and I'm still very happy. It's amazing to be driving down the road and actually have the ability to read the street signs in time to turn. ;)

Enjoy your new eyesight!!

I WISH I could get LASIK. But my corneas are too thin and my eyes too deep set. I'm a great candiate for PRK though, which has a longer recovery time. A girlfriend of mine did it about 5 years ago and went from worse eyesight than me (i'm -6.5, she was -11) to 20/20. She calls them her "bionic eyes."

I've heard great things about LASIK though. I mentioned it to my ob/gyn (had both appts on the same day), and he'd had LASIK. He said that he was at the theater that night and did two surgeries the next day. Wow!

Congratulations on the new eyes. I'm envious in the nicest possible way!:)

I corrected to around 20/30, which for me, is quite remarkable!

I had Lasik around three years ago. Very glad I had it, I can actually see to shave my legs in the shower now!

Be careful to stay away from dust, wind, and any fumes for a couple weeks. Use those eye drops religiously!

Yes, I will be wearing those lovely "goggle" things in the barn for a while. They aren't cute but they will keep the wind, dust, hay, etc. out of my eyes.

Dh also had corneas too thin for Lasik. His were also too thin for PRK. His vision was absolutely horrific. (I never can remember the actual numbers, but think practically blind. Contacts don't completely bring him to 20/20.) His eyes were so dry and red from wearing thick, nonpermiable contacts that the blood vessels were starting to grow into his irises. He finally found an eye specialist who was able to help him. He had his lenses replaced this fall. What is commonly refered to as cataract surgery was used to give him vision. He did not have cataracts. He now has 20/30 and 20/40 vision. Of course, he now has to have reading glasses as a result of the surgery. He has opted to just wear bifocals because he has to have an astygmatism corrected in one eye. He may go back in a year or so and have that corrected with a touch of surgery. He may not. Where his vision is now, he can function without much hassle. (He was at the age where reading glasses were pretty much necessary anyway.) His eyes are no longer constantly dry. (He had been on Restasis for quite a while and still was putting eye drops in every few minutes. He had had his tear ducts plugged which helped for about a week.) He no longer looks like he's on drugs with bloodshot eyes. It has truly been a miracle for him.

Just wanted to let you know that if you are turned down for surgery, there ARE other options out there if your eyes are bad enough.
