Tamologa4
I'm curious as to how you use these readers. Do you use them alone for your reading instruction or do you use them along side something else, such as ETC or OPGTR? Any input would be very helpful from those of you who have btdt :) Thanks! ---Angelique

Pensguys
They have instruction. The first sets start with letter sounds and you work from there using those letter sounds to make words and the stories are made from the words that are learned. It adds digraphs, etc over time. We used all 8 sets and they were great for my son. My ds knew most of his letter sounds before we started.
Tamologa4
Penny, Did you use anything along with the BRI I See Sam Readers to teach your son to read or did you use them alone? Thanks for your input. ---Angelique
Pensguys
Well, we went through MANY girations before I found what worked. Initially, I started trying to teach him (this is when he was 5 and 6) to read with SWR. Then I can't remember if I kept on with that or not. Then I used part of ABeCeDarian which is supposed to teach reading and spelling together. It did great for him as far as helping with smoothing out sounding out words and the spelling part was just okay. I can't remember if I started the I see Sam books last year or not....I think so though. It helped that he already knew all his letter sounds when we started them so we went through them pretty fast at first. Then this year I used nothing else to teach reading reading except these books and we've finished all 8 sets and he's been reading real books like Charlotte's Web, Magic Treehouse, stuff like that. Tamologa4
Thanks Penny. I'm trying to decide if I should use ETC along with the readers. I appreciate your input. -Angelique

I just ordered ABCDarian, and I want to use the I See Sam readers to use with it. I'm wondering if I should start with set 1/2 or with a higher set. I guess I could just buy them and save them for my youngest.
StephanieF
I used the OPGTR plus the readers as pratice, something we read every single day. We only started the series in the middle as I didn't know about them but they are brilliant and inexpensive. I also use ETC Stephanie
Mom-ninja.
ETC has not worked well for us.
