momofkhm
While I was out running this morning, ds answered the phone and the door to people to whom he's not allowed. That sounds funny - the approved list is me, dh, and grandparents. None of us called or came to the door - a friend did. I called dh to figure out a punishment - no playing with the friend who called and came to the door. Now his friend that he went half-sies with on a Nerf gun gets to play with it and he doesn't. If punishment was easy, it wouldn't be punishment, would it? Maybe he'll learn and obey the rules next time.

angela in ohio
If discipline was easy, everyone would have good kids! Stand your ground!
2greatkids
I agree that sticking to your guns is hard now, but it will make for better kids in the long run. momofkhm
No playing with the friend for how long? Just today.
Ria
I think that as children get older, grace should be extended a bit. Your son is 8, and this was not a stranger, but a friend. Did he let the kid inside, or just open the door and tell the friend that he was unavailable to play? Did he allow the friend to come inside, or did he explain the situation and then turn him away? I think I'd base my punishment on exactly what happened. Ria
Jean in Newcastle
Just today. If it's for only today- that doesn't sound too bad - just something to make the rule stick in his head!
