Overload...

Recommended Posts

I have now read all the way through parts 1 & 2 of The Well Trained Mind, third edition. I am overwhelmed and getting more interested all at the same time. I have over 90 post-it bookmarks sticking out of the book and about a dozen full size post-its w/questions sticking inside the front cover. I will have to go back and add written notes/lists to my education notebook over the summer.

I started off w/a classical mindset before I sent my child to our local classical school, which turned out to be not so classical. I read the first edition of TWTM before my child was in kindergarten. It's been a long road, but I finally see some practical ideas that I can implement in our next year of homeschooling (which will be our fifth year of homeschool). I'll be asking a lot of questions over the next several days!

You are not alone in this! I first found WTM in our library. I borrowed it and read it 3 times, before I could get my head around it properly. Then I bought my own copy (this was about 8 years ago). I still pull it out every year and find new things in it; it's a gold mine :)

What helped me in the beginning was to take baby steps and implement things I knew I could do consistently. I did at one stage kind of go for broke, and tried to do too much. We all got burnt out, starting with me. Good luck and ask lots of questions here; there are so many knowledgeable and helpful people (it's another gold mine!). Good luck!

Waiting for mine to come. C'mon UPS Guy! And just in time, too. We're "officially" starting 1st grade for DD1 starting in August/September. (although our K curriculum has branched out into 1st and even 2nd grade work already...)

I've written all over my old edition and am looking forward to doing the same to this new one.
