Mom-ninja.
For first grade I kind of stumbled around. I tried CM method and it did not work at all for me. The moment I found WTM I knew it was what I wanted. So for 2nd grade we did SOTW level 1 and Biology. We are a year "behind" the rotation. Do I need to catch up at some point? ELaurie
Your dc is young, and you haven't "missed" anything! The grammar years are a time to pursue topics in science that are of interest to your dc. It's great to expose him (or her) to the four year science cycle outlined in TWTM, but not necessary. My dc are in 3rd and 1st grade this year, and I feel like I'm just now getting a handle on how to teach science. Learning to teach various subjects is a learning process for you; first I learned to teach language arts and math, then I learned to teach history, now I am learning how to approach science :001_smile: Have fun with science, and don't worry! Kate in Arabia
I started WTM with my oldest as a 1st grader. It took us 2.5 years to do ancients, we're in the middle of Early Modern (year 3) and he's finishing fifth grade. "Officially" we should have been doing our second round of ancients this year. My second ds joined in last year, he was first grade and he did history with us, which was Middle Ages and a bit of Early Modern. So he's way off. Actually, at the rate we're going, he will probably be going into fifth and we'll be back at ancients again, so maybe he'll be back on track. So I think in the end, for both, they will have had a cycle and a half by highschool. We just have not been able to keep to a strict schedule, meaning we delve more into some topics, and we just pick up where we left off after breaks. I'm going with "slow and steady wins the race".
