Rhondabee
If I get Blended Stucture and Style in Composition, will that cover the philosophy of IEW & the same basic information that is in the TWSS? Thanks!
Country Girl
Bump! I was just looking at this and came here to see if there was any info.
TracyR
I'm wondering this myself. :lurk5:
Michelle T
I actually recently bought it, and returned it to Rainbow Resource. Andrew Pudewa based IEW on this book, so yes, it does cover the same writing philosophy. But it is written for classroom teachers, it is very dry, very wordy, and not at all user friendly. I guess you could wade through and figure it out, and it is certainly cheaper than IEW. But for me, it was just too frustrating. G5052
People are usually one way or the other on Andrew Pudwa's teaching, but I happen to think he's much easier to understand than reading Dr. Webster's book. Yes, the information is there in the book, but Andrew teaches it. I've enjoyed everything he's done, and was heartbroken when he was in my state earlier this year and I had to cancel out because my husband was having a procedure. As an IEW co-op teacher, I like reading through the book again before each unit to refresh my memory, but starting there would be very hard IMHO. Country Girl
Thanks Michelle and GVA. It is good to know that the content is similar. Does it also go into the different stylistic techniques that are used in IEW? I'm looking at it more for a reference to add to the things we are doing on our own and the price seems much better than TWSS!
calandalsmom
someone has the VHS of TWSS for sale for 70 right now in this forum and i would buy that if I were you. Webster invented what IEW markets but Mr Pudewa makes it clear.
angela in ohio
That is a great book to read AFTER you watch the DVDs. :) It will definitely not give you what the TWSS does.
Julie of KY
Definately get the videos. Blended Structure and Style is what IEW is based on. It is written to classroom teachers and it is very hard to sort out if you aren't already familiar with the program. I wouldn't even recommend getting it at all unless you are going to teach in a classroom/coop or if you just want to learn as much as you can about the program. Country Girl
Thank you again to everyone who gave input. I had a chance to quickly look at the Blended Structure and Style book today but not enough to get a good feel for how hard it would be to implement i (which probably means it isn't obviously easy otherwise my short time with it would have made more sense:D). Thanks!
